Battle of Stamford Bridge (Guardian)

Yeh good read brought back memories of rocks and coins coming at us from all angles, not there tonight im at newcassel airport, hoping the hotel has ssports 🤞🏻hope i can be smug amongst the skunks UTFMB

Was at the home game but couldn't make the away game. My mother came out of hospital terminal cancer that morning, so that was way more important, lots of tears along the way.

The day I remember it very well, listening to the radio as the final minutes ticked down, I kept turning it on and off in our bedroom. I ended up doing headstands against the wardrobe to stop the the nerves and the wife walked in and thought I`d flipped.
Joyous tears as Ali said on Radio Cleveland "Pallister to Slaven who can end it all here" What a moment.
There was radio silence for hell of a while due to the carry on, they put some stupid cricket on while we waited for interviews.

Brought a bit of sunshine on what was a very tough and dark time.
UTB.

Remember it well, the most unsafe I have felt at a match, then having to get home across south west London.
Crazy scenes.

We were on a coach organised for Boro officials and wives/girlfriends (oh how times have changed!) which meant we had to wait for some considerable time to be collected, even longer than planned given the trouble.

On the plus side though we got to laugh at the late Ken Bates as he crept through our party in his Rolls Royce.

Fair to say he wasn't a happy man that afternoon after some insignificant club from a lowly town up north has dared to spoil his script!

I was in the terrace behind the goal. Things weren't that bad until a steward opened the gate and then the shed emptied onto the field. For about 10 minutes I thought we were in real trouble. Eventuality the police regained control and after the stadium emptied we could celebrate with the team. Didn't leave the ground till 90 minutes after the game finished. Wasn't wearing any colours so I safely made it by tube and train back to Brentwood where I was staying.
what an amazing day I will never forget. I hope all those going tonight leave with similar feelings........ Without the animosity after the game. I think that will be aimed at Poch and the team.

Came down to the Bridge on a Cleveland Transit bus which was in big white letters on the side . Bus stopped at traffic lights maybe Kings Road right bang outside a pub ,,, soon there were chairs been thrown at the windows and guys trying to open the front doors .... crazy times

Close mate was married in Nottingham the day of the second leg of the Play Offs.
Probably saved me a hiding.
Still gutted we all missed it.
About to set off in an hour for this one.
I'll take a thump for the same outcome as back then.
Hope you have a good day with a fantastic outcome for us (you never know)

They ran on the pitch and threw a few stones, big wow. They did not want to know before the game although I accept they were looking to pick off small groups where they had numeric advantage before and after the game.

They did want to know at half time in the ZDS and got a rude awakening.

Article is a decent read.

Behind the goal aswell, remember some Boro stewards at the front ripping their steward jackets off, jumping climbing over the fence and squaring upto the Chelsea fans on the pitch.🤣

I had a bit of a sulk about this match: my Dad wouldn't take me, but he went with some friends.

I was 10 at the time, and I think he made the right call having heard about it since.

Dad mentioned some of his mates had seats, but asked to be moved to the standing area after about 15 minutes, and stewards/coppers were more than willing to oblige.

Pre-Hillsborough of course.
