Boro Shop Q and A

Genuine question - who buys recent Boro shirts in size small or medium, and what does your body look like??

The sizing of footy tops is brutal these days. They're cut for players, not fans.

I admit I'm not a small person. My usual T-shirt size is XL, and over the years I've come to understand that that means XXL for footy shirts as they often cling. But in recent years I've never come remotely close to fitting into those sizes of Boro shirts and would have to buy something way bigger. XXL barely goes over my head. Bring back Adidas!
Doubt that is the reason. That would be reasonable but I would guess that getting kids wearing adult sizes sooner is the reality. Presume it is to satisfy sponsors rather than because it is more profitable (think they make more off kids kits than they do adults because they, shamefully, don't pay VAT on kids kits but do charge fans as if they do).

The sizing are idiotic, the retail part of the club is shocking.. can’t believe how hard it must be to be this bad!

That's an interesting theory and it may well be correct. But it leads to any adult who's carrying a bit of timber ending up as something ridiculous like a 6XL, which is mad.

They really do need to revamp the operation like get a proper retail person running it as it's ridiculous the club most he missing out on so much revenue by simply not stocking enough stock in the sizes people want. I have opposite problem require small but in majority of stock it's all XL. Also they need to look at making the gear of higher quality.

Another problem with the sizing being so inconsistent is the insistence on only selling shirts from the club shop.

So for fans who live away, and we have many:

- you have to get a shirt delivered
- at unreasonable cost
- and it's a complete lottery as to what size to order, so increased inconvenience.

Not that the club give much of a stuff about anyone who isn't a ST holder.

Again, you wonder if other clubs whose shirts are made by Errea have these sizing issues. You’d expect them to but who knows.

It is very odd.

Not going to happen obviously (as it's MFC) but an accurate sizing guide would help.

Although that would possibly shine a light on how ridiculous the sizing is.

Sounds like 5'10 and 12 stone would at least be an XL in errea land.

Don't Adidas tell you the height and weight of their models or something? Could get a load of big lads in from north Ormesby to do a bit of modelling.

Just checked through a few of my past and present Boro replica shirts - either XXL like this season or XL Hummel. But I have either XL or XXL in earlier Boro shirts too.
Sometimes depends if you want to wear it over the top of a long sleeve layer in winter or as a tshirt in summer.
I suppose it can be an advantage of using the shop you can ask the assistant for advice or try it on.

What I suggest is that when we come to do this Q and A we compile some of the questions people had in the run-up to Christmas. They were dominated by stock issues. But at different times people listed all the items out of stock - it would be handy to have those lists and when they were made. They are still on here somewhere so we can compile them nearer the time.

I fully understand that some things are out of their control, but I went in at the start of November to ask about the training tracky bottoms in junior sizes. I was told that they did not have an exact date they would be in stock but was assured it would be before Christmas. I think we all know where this is heading and yes, they still haven't got them in. I asked if I could pre-order them, and was told no, just keep any eye on the website and that will be updated when we have them in stock.

As others have said people are desperate to spend money but there are so many obstacles put in the way that in the end people just give up and go elsewhere.

And that takes us back towards postage costs because there’s a sense that they encourage people to check the website in the knowledge that they’ll inevitably order them online… and be charged an extortionate amount of delivery costs.

It’s pretty disgusting. Much like ‘admin costs’ and booking charges when buying tickets online. These costs are literally already in the initial price you’re being charged. They’re just fleecing people and getting away with it.

@fmttmadmin in the list could you ask why the website constantly list items that are not in stock in any size.

The size filtering doesn't work so u have to click every item to find something in stock.

Cheers

Accurate sizing guide you say

Well here’s one for you

Small - very loads in stock prob fit the average gnome

Medium - no idea but bigger than small and we’ve only one leftthat’s been here for weeks

Large - ha ha ha ha ha ha …..oh you’re being serious erm nope none of them last seen in may I think it was. No idea when or if we’ll see them again…

Extra large - now your just being silly what do you think this a shop.

XXL yes I think we have a few although no one really knows what XXL really is.

Oh you want the away top ? Now you really are taking the p!ss

Errea supply their generic shirts into the promotional market through the biggest wholesalers in the UK with no stock issues. It might be that Errea are partly to blame but they aren't the only supplier into Boro and the Boro seem to be the common denominator.

Theres literally no reason why the Boro can't define the tagging of the shirts to suit the local demographic in terms of sizing.

I used to work with the Portuguese company that supply the F1 pitlane shirts to McLaren and they specifically label their Team Principal to US sizing as he's American.

My main takeout is that the club are lazy and anyone who is a professional tends to move away from the club, like the Emmerson brothers did.

My guess is they aren't lazy, they are cheap. We have the lowest service level offered for everything. We use competent suppliers and services but are getting the equivalent of the free but ad-riddled service when a small monthly fee would improve service levels for customers. Just means we're at the back of the queue for re-supplies.

Presume we do the same for our finance modelling which is why they can't handle ticket deals and they can't fill the stadium.
