I think he was attempting to win the ball but was very clumsy.
It would depend on how the ref viewed it. In saying that, knowing Stroud, he probably actually sent him off for using offensive language or something.

Kind of always true that it’s how the ref views it. But for me this wasn’t ever a careless honest tackle that went wrong. It was a marginal holding offence. Which is either no foul or a red card (even inside the box) if it’s a DOGSO. Giving a yellow for it would be dishonest bottle job. If you think it’s a DOGSO. Which it is really. You can draw a “last man” line as if it’s offside that argues Darragh is there. But no way he really intervenes before the attacker gets the shot off. Could have gone the other way but not surprised we didn’t appeal.

The last man argument is irrelevant as the ref obviously viewed it as him denying a goalscoring opportunity. The question is whether he thought it was a genuine attempt to win the ball. Which we don't know.

At the risk of getting into angels on the head of a pin territory I don’t think that’s right. If it’s holding, it’s a red even if it’s a pen and the holding is part of a genuine attempt to play the ball. Anyway, it wasn’t a pen, ref ruled it denial of a goal scoring opportunity (and we think that’s at least not clearly wrong if we didn’t appeal) so it’s a red whatever the foul was.

I don’t think we’ll miss him too much on Monday. Especially if you’re in the lose on purpose to shaft the Mackems camp.
