Boro to appeal Dijksteel red card

Personally don't think it'll be overturned, but it's worth a try surely. Would give us much needed flexibility for Monday.

It's a 1 game ban for the straight red. If it's unsuccessful, the back 4 vs Coventry on Monday will be makeshift.

Smith
McNair
Lenihan

...with nothing but kids on the bench defensively, Smith & McNair only just returning from injury. God help us if anything happened to Darragh.

I think it is the perfect game to give Bilongo a game and maybe another from the u/21’s. All this talk of momentum is a red herring. It is far more important that we are fit and healthy for the semi, players wont be lacking confidence if it is a management decision. What would be more deflating would be to play a full strength team and lose or pick up more injuries imho.

I will trust Carrick to make the right call whatever we do. Finishing 4th is an advantage for me as it gives an extra day for the injured and their recovery.

100% we should appeal. On a side note, Keith Stroud is a terrible referee but time and time again, and as yesterday, these referees are being let down badly by linesmen who are unbelievably shocking and are absolute fannies when its come to making decisions.

I wouldn't want Gyokeres to get his confidence up further by banging 3 in against an even more make shift defence. Id keep changes there to a minimum

Thought it was very noticeable yesterday that the linesman closest to the dugouts was waiting for Stroud to tell him which way to flag every time.

You want to put a kid up against the second best striker in the championship, who likes to bully and rag doll defenders out the way?! Wouldn’t be fair on him.

Well we may need to at some point in the coming weeks, rather than destroy him, it gives him an opportunity to see how good he is before the games that really matter. Imagine if we play McNair and Lenihan and one has an injury or a suspension, where would that leave us. I see it as an opportunity to learn rather than an assumption it’ll destroy his confidence 🤷‍♂️

Carrick will have thought this through and wants Dijksteel available for Monday, otherwise the thinking could have been that a one game suspension could be accepted with the authorities possibly giving a more severe judgement for a “frivolous appeal”.

Why no Giles, is he injured?

If so it's one change from our first choice back four until injury brought Dijksteel in a few games ago.

Probably with Howson or Dijksteel or Crooks at CB
