Boro's most iconic goal in our 146 year history

Job's opener, when we really started to believe.
I'll be honest, I can't really remember the actual goal. The occasion, yes. The elation, yes. But not the actual goal.
So the goal itself isn't iconic to me, just the whole match and occasion.

Iconic for me means if a football fan with no other links to the club saw it they would know what it was. So Maccarone's header, Rav's goals vs Liverpool which announced us finding a whole new level, and Juninho's goal at Old Trafford in the pouring rain 96/97.

Also, maybe, John Hendrie's full pitch run against Millwall.

One of the lads in our office said Hendrie's solo goal vs Millwall..

different one for me; Rav’s at the Baseball Ground ti put us 2-0 and into our first ever FA Cup semi final. I can still hear that sound as he hit the ball.
I've got to agree! Lots of candidates in my nearly 60 years (!) of watching the Boro but this one tops the lot. I'd read the history of our previous 6th round flops from before I was born, was at our quarter final exits at Old Trafford in 1970 and Anfield in1977. Not forgetting Billy Ashcroft's famous miss in the 88th minute v Orient in 1978. (Of course, we lost the replay). And the most painful of all by a long way, Molineux v Wolves in 1981. I thought we'd never ever get past the 6th round in my lifetime. We'd stuffed Derby 6-1 in the League at the Riverside a few days earlier, which made me even more sure (with that wonderful logic us Boro fans have in our DNA), that we were bound to fail at the Baseball Ground in the 6th Round of the Cup. After I'd parked the car before the match, I trudged to the away end trying to forget about the inevitable gut wrenching pain I'd feel on the way back. As for the match, Juninho was unplayable, opened the scoring in the first half and any neutral would have predicted a comfortable Boro win but I was still expecting a late Derby equaliser followed by defeat in the replay. Naturally, as Boro didn't do FA Cup semi-finals! And then, after a wonderful pass from Juninho, to whom the whole Derby defence had been attracted, Rav hit that glorious second in the 90th minute. I can still see it. I finally started to believe and I cheered louder that I'd ever cheered for any Boro goal. Still my all time favourite! UTB and thanks for the memory!

This one's a doozy.
One of the nominations for BBC Goal of the Season. Is that the only time we have had that honour?
I think it came 3rd or 4th. Tony Morley of Villa won it.

It was a bit odd that he was nominated in the first place as he didn't even win the January GOTM.

As I was in the Holgate end for the moment, I reckon it was Bernie's goal v Chelsea for the promo/relegation playoff. It was iconic because of what it meant at the time as we were barely out of administration, barely out of division three, barely had a team of 12 players never mind a squad.

What a goal that was

I remember walking out of the baseball ground thinking this was history as no other boro side clough Manion Mowbray etc has ever passed this stage. We truly were making history the glass ceiling was finally broken.

Got to be Maccarone's last minute goal against Steaua Bucharest, surely?

This, probably will only be trumped by an FA Cup final winner as i doubt we are going to win the league or a European cup.

Getting to the UEFA Cup Final, especially the way we did it, rates higher to me than the league cup win

My favourite is Hendrie's solo goal vs Millwall. It was one of those moments where you can't believe he just did that (watching it live). However, when you watch the replay, it was one of those where the defence kind of parted (like so many great goals, e.g. Owen vs Argentina).
