Boro's most iconic goal in our 146 year history

For me it should have been Festa's goal against Chesterfield at Old Trafford, the one which should have put us in the FA Cup final, but then we let them score. It's the one that always comes to memory, and I think it's because of how it went over Juninho's head
That goal summed us up at the time. Down to 10 men, closing minutes of the match and we've got both centre backs in the penalty area - it wasn't even a set piece or a corner. It was open play 😂

We should have shut up shop, ran the clock down, got in the corners and made subs in the 2nd period of extra time at Wembley against Leicester shouldn't we.

Just wasn't in our make up.

I’ve said this on here but iIl repeat it here. We were sat in the upper tier on the side about quarter of the way along and we had a great view of the royal box, and they had put the red ribbons on the cup. That’s how close we were to winning it.

It had our ribbons on it.

Iconic: Rav’s hattrick goal, on debut, against Liverpool and the celebration with the shirt over his head.

That has got to be the most replayed and most symbolic image of the most amazing era we’ve ever had. Middlesbrough signing a Champions League-winning striker to play with Brazil’s number 10.

You ask a random person on the street if they know Middlesbrough, they say Juninho and Ravanelli.

dunno what category it falls in but one of favourites, was John Hicktons pile driver from outside of the box to take a 1 -0 league against Man City in the league cup semi final first leg under the flood lights. I really thought we were going to Wembley that night, scored it at the holgate end also which was packed and going mental

Watching the Maccarone goal again today it still had my spine tingling. Along with Ali's commentary it is such a brilliant moment. I don't get that from many other goals. The win at Cardiff was obviously a bigger day and we won but which goal do you choose? The one in the opening minutes or the winner that was just a penalty? The iconic moment in the Cup final was the final whistle. The iconic moment in the Steau match was Maccarone's goal.

That goal also put us on the map as a serious european club. Getting to a major European final is an incredible achievement. Such a shame we didn't capitalise on it by appointing an actual manager.

Iconic is an interesting category. I can only really speak to relatively recent ones.

Both maccarone ones certainly. Stuani vs Brighton would be up there. Rochemback free kick vs Man City. Weirdly free kicks from Zemamma and Kink are quite iconic in a certain section of our fan base.
