Britt etc - free transfer

I'm pretty sure that the club when purchasing players evaluate the full package of finance on the said player walking away at the end of the contract. For example if Britt cost us 25 mill (transfer and wages) over the length of his contract then that's what they will have budgeted. The reality a transfer windfall probably isn't in the equation and only history will suggest if the deal was value for money or not.

What I'm saying is its probably the fans more than the club that are worried about them leaving on a free in the summer. Its up to the club and recruitment team to take the advantages of this system when looking at other players further down the league tree.

Having said this I think we will do deals on both Britt and Fletch in January I just can not see any takers.

Not sure like. The owners of a club will see a player as stock, they see it as a business as opposed to the fans viewpoint.
As such, they'll want a return on their 'stock' wherever possible. Yes they'll have budgeted for the fee, wages and contract length but I can see a year extension being offered for Britt tbh. At least we could get a small fee for him at some point possibly.

I also think people on here are more desperate for him to leave than Warnock
He brought him on today , and he was handed the armband
I'd have like to see Jones or Folarin get a runout, but Britt still gets on

We won’t sell him in jan as there will be nobody spending money when he is free in the summer.

Also who would pay his wages?

No chance we offer him a new contract, by far our biggest earner and he certainly doesn’t represent value for money. Also no point in loosing him in jan if we can’t afford to replace him.
Expect Fletcher to sign a new contract though

Will we be able to afford a replacement in the Summer though? Any replacement (a first-choice striker) would be on similar wages.

Also, if a club came in with an offer of £2m+, Gibson/Bauser would snap their hands off.

Agreed.
The problem is we will have to accept we are likely to be paying him an enormous salary until he leaves in over 6 months time. 700,000 GBP`s is a ridiculous amount and he knows hes not going to get anywhere near that elsewhere.
The club wont make anything other than a few pennies if he goes in January.
Perhaps the only solution would be for him to go out on loan and the other team pay half his wages?
I imagine Neil Warnock would find another two or three Watmore`s for that price.
Unfortunately I fear we are stuck with him - like Ayala, Gestede, Clayton.......at least two of those had worn the shirt with pride and earnt their corn.
I wont be personal about Brit the man, but as a footballer [its all about opinions] he hasnt got what it takes to consistently "cut the mustard".
Hes not worth the money and he looks like hes going through the motions.
Let Paddy .....or even Dael Fry [?! Why not?] have the Captains Armband.
No one man is bigger than the Boro.

No one will spend that sort of money on an out of form striker on huge wages who will be out of contract in a few months

even if we do sell him it won’t solve the problem, can’t think of a striker we can realistically get that will look good in this system. Look at Britts record at Peterborough and Forest plus his first two seasons with us, he hasn’t just become a bad player overnight, it’s the way we play

Thought there used to be a rule where if you offer a player less money than they are on, then they can request a free transfer? I heard a rumour that Sheffield United were interested in Britt. If they are then straight swap for Billy Sharp. (They pay all Britt’s loyalty bonuses etc).

We will probably lose Britt and Fletcher for nothing in July. We paid 22mil for the pair and paid a fortune in wages.

That's a terrific business model😕

We bought them both for well above market value and put them on contacts than no champo side can match and many prem clubs probably wouldn't. They have had no resale ability for years due to wages.

The only 'light at the end of the tunnel' is that we are almost at the end of Monks bizzare (we had 5 forwards) and stunningly bad use of Gibson money. Once Britt and maybe Fletcher are off the books we can maybe look at replacing them.

To think we've had 3 managers stuck with the same miss firing forwards (I include Rudy in that). It's hard to see how any of them can get these lot scoring.

The majority of champo clubs have forwards who cost 1-2m and score as many. So you can find them👍

Let's not forget that Britt cost more than Sheff UTDs match day squad when they beat us 1-0. That's a pretty stunning stat.
