Britt etc - free transfer

People have to remember that Britt doesn't have to go anywhere if he doesn't want to.

He can do a Gestede and sit and toss it off for 6 months collecting his money if he so chooses. No one can force him to sign for somebody else.

I think Britt has a better moral fortitude than the the disgrace that is Gestede so he wouldn't be a problem inside the club & would still train hard etc even if not getting selected.

Not sure like. The owners of a club will see a player as stock, they see it as a business as opposed to the fans viewpoint.
As such, they'll want a return on their 'stock' wherever possible. Yes they'll have budgeted for the fee, wages and contract length but I can see a year extension being offered for Britt tbh. At least we could get a small fee for him at some point possibly.
Offering Assombolonga a contract extension would be madness.
I wouldn't want him on ten grand a week.
A one year contract extension won't allow us to command any sort of fee beyond January and we would be back where we are now.

He has never scored over 15 goals in this division (including his spell at forest) and the last time hit those heights was three years ago. It’s been down hill ever since. P

If we wanted to tie him down to a new contract, and he wanted to stay here, then it would have been signed by now.

Whilst he's never been worth what the club shelled out for him, he's nevertheless a 15 goals a season striker and given he'll be on a free he'll get plenty of offers.

Under Monk - ironically - he looked a good buy, but since then he's played in a succession of Boro teams that struggle to score goals.

I'd keep Fletch but sell Britt.
I also take solace from the fact that the money we will lose has already gone.
There's no need to count the loss twice.

He’s not though as he’s only hit it 15 goals twice at 2 different clubs the last time being 3 years ago

I judge strikers by how good they are at 1 on 1 and how reactionary they are when in the box and Brit falls short on both of these.

Woeful at one on ones and never anticipates a ball in the box.

I don’t really get this bashing of Britt to be honest. He’s been a one in 3 striker for us and never caused bother or downed tools or taken the psss. It’s probably time for the club and him to part ways but i don’t think he deserves the stick he’s getting. He’s been on a big wage yes but has contributed far more than the Rudi’s of this world on similar wages ever did and who are justifiably hammered. I think Britt deserves a bit more respect than he’s getting and an amicable parting of the ways in either Jan or summer should be acceptable. Still, we wouldn’t be Boro if we didn’t select a boo-boy to hammer.

He is a poor striker and he’s bringing the side down. Don’t worry though as Warnock knows this that why he didn’t start yesterday. Warnock knows exactly what’s happening so I have every faith in him sorting it.

Not about being a boo boy either it’s about doing what’s best for the club.

I'm pretty sure that the club when purchasing players evaluate the full package of finance on the said player walking away at the end of the contract. For example if Britt cost us 25 mill (transfer and wages) over the length of his contract then that's what they will have budgeted. The reality a transfer windfall probably isn't in the equation and only history will suggest if the deal was value for money or not.

What I'm saying is its probably the fans more than the club that are worried about them leaving on a free in the summer. Its up to the club and recruitment team to take the advantages of this system when looking at other players further down the league tree.

Having said this I think we will do deals on both Britt and Fletch in January I just can not see any takers.

Cant comment on his ability, but I hear that he has a nice smile :)
He has, it's called the pay packet smile.

I’ve no doubt Britt will move on and I do think we look a better side when Akpom plays (though it appears he’s next cab on the rank to be targeted judging by some of the comments on here recently). My point is though that I don’t think he has ever not tried his best and has managed to be 1 in 3 striker for us over his time here. That’s decent, not worth the outlay agreed but that outlay isn’t Britt’s fault it’s the club’s. He doesn’t really deserve the hammering he gets in my opinion and I don’t think it shows us as fans in a good light really. With Rudi for example the hammerings he got were justifiable cos he was obviously taking the psss.

The armband is symbolic

Why did Warnock bring him on ahead of Folarin or Jones yesterday then?

I don't agree. Although his scoring record was ok, as a team we were hot and cold, it was clear after those 23ish games under Monk that Britt was a poor footballer but would score a few. That if he didn't score he was a liability to the team. Even though he looked like he would get around 20, I didn't warm to him at all. He missed some absolute sitters as well in those games that cost us points. For 15m I was expecting more.
