Championship Play-Off
17-May-23
Middlesbrough0 - 1CoventryLHome game, just needed to win. Controlled possession but players seemed scared to play through balls or make runs behind. Could still be playing now & don't think we'd score.
West Brom, Huddersfield, Rotherham.. meat and potatoes old school championship football. Coventry served us up the very same last night.

By any chance were you the moron in the NW corner, row 26, who called the player of the year *****, Forrs ***** - demanded Jones replace him, then called Jones ***** and then said all of them are ***** before then leaving on 80 minutes?

Don't come back.
No. WSL about halfway between halfway & the south goalline.

He said post match last night that you learn more from the setbacks than your successes.
Every time we had a crucial game, we came up short.

What has he learnt from that and will improve next season?

Apart from those many crucial games we didn't come up short, of course.
Or all the wins we managed after those defeats, of course.

You've just provided a list of every defeat under Carrick and put your own clownish spin on why each is a big game failure.

We also bottled big games against the following teams who were in and around the play offs at the time of the match:

Norwich (a & h)
Blackburn (a)
Watford (h)
Swansea (a)
Preston (h)

Oh hang on that’s not right.
Not forgetting Sheff U away

I don't think just putting a list of defeats proves your point at all does it?
It doesn’t but robins tactically out witted Carrick over the two games I think which is a concern as it has happened a few times now but Carrick is perfect for us and I think we are perfect for him
A full season together will give us a lot more data to judge his progression

What is your over-arching point? Sack him and bring in someone “with more bottle”? Next season is our 7th consecutive season in the Championship, it’s not like this was a wasted opportunity to go up. We moved up the table nearly 20 places and in the end didn’t have quite enough for the PL (like 21 other teams in the division).

Some fans seem to forget that he is still a comparatively new manager, learning his trade.

This is a plus if anything, if he can do this with Boro (whereas more experienced managers have failed and sometimes abysmally) after just a handful of games as a caretaker under his belt elsewhere, imagine what he'll be like in a year or more's time?

Well at least 20 other managers in the Championship have bottled it as well then. Maybe there’s different degrees of bottling ?

Such fine tight tight margins.. for me it was the final 20 minutes of the game last night.

I would have had Bola on before Barlaser and Crooks on much sooner!

Carrick is certainly NOT a bottler, he's a very, very decorated seasoned winner. He's a bright, intelligent guy who is on a learning journey as a young manager in the game. Thus far, his record as manager of Boro is fantastic and he's wise enough to be able to learn on the job.

Last night was disappointing but for my money, instead of starting ridiculous attention seeking threads, we should be proud of what he has achieved this season and should back him 100% in his journey as manager of the Boro. I have no doubt whatsoever he will go on to become a top class manager so instead of slating him, putting your sensible head on.

You're hurt, we all get it and we all feel it. But knee jerk threads like this just look silly.

To be honest we did crumble end of the season abit like Sheffield Wednesday did. Mainly due to injuries though Ramsey was a massive miss our season fell apart after he celebrated in front the Norwich City fans that made the Norwich players angry and injure him
