Carrick holding Boro talks today

Prepared to give Carrick a go, seems a bit of a pound shop Robson to me, but must have picked up something from his experience playing and coaching with some of the best? Dyche just seems like a step back to what we have alrteady tried and not sure he would work with ourv recruitment model. Intrigued by Scotty Parker, he has got two teams promoted from this league too, but didn't he fall out with Bournemouth over signings?

Mind you Wolf would provide some good singing material and it's the current vogue!

People often talk about replicating the Brentford or Norwich models, but this potential appointment reminds me that we've actually been the team to emulate when we've followed our own path.

We have had our greatest successes when appointing first time managers. It's not an option that every team explores, but it smacks of 'Middlesbrough's way' to me. There are going to be bumps in the road when going down this route - see Woodgate - but you can't get it right everytime.

I would be fully behind the Carrick appointment and see it as the perfect fit for the club.

Hannes Wolf managerial record isn't standout, having looked at his wiki page just now.

Just goes to show how a foreign name can instantly catch the eye over an English player who has won everything at club level over a long career and coached at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Advanced talks, holding talks.. we need advanced midfielders and holding midfielders!!
That would be good:

"Now then Billy Bignuts. How do ya fancy joinin the Boro?
We`re in the schitt at the minute an looking like we could be relegated.
The last Manager kept saying rude words to the kit man.
Any way.....
We`ve got a nice stadium - the roof is showing signs of rusting and ageing mind - an the Ayresome Gates are rusting.
But the training facilities are good.
We can offer you £5 3/- 6d a week, plus 1/- goal bonus.
We`ve got a spare room in an ex Council House we own on Brambles Farm
What do ya say pal ?
Oh yea - you get free tea an coffee on match days"

True, I wonder if he might have any insight into players that are currently not on our radar though who could do a good job for us?

Stuani, Kike and Nsue were all good players for us who I assume were more to do with Karanka than our scouts?

I suppose the same could be said for Carrick and the Man U youth squads.

Not sure how Rockcliffe has suddenly turned into the Bramble Farm Hotel?

It’ll be interesting to see what Carrick, Phelan & Mulensteen do with the current set up.. can’t see them putting up with any guff. Like Karanka he was used to a top end club.. passing notes around for Championship loans won’t cut it I wouldn’t have thought.

Bring him in but back him properly
oney in the pot and FFP headroom, but it's not the kind of cash to be a game changer. 14m seems to be what we were prepared to pay for Greaves and Larsen. Plus loaning that lad from Brentford.

If play offs are gone by January, then loans are just dead money at that point. Might as well build for the following season with a couple of youngish players

I remember playing league darts at the Brambles Farm Hotel - many years ago.
Always a warm welcome - like Hotel California

The business this summer could easily have brought down the debt and brought in better players

Carrick still has the same players Wilder did so I’m not expecting miracles
Carrick will have the full benefit of Dijksteel, Fry, Forss, Hoppe and the entire academy.

Carrick the player was very very good, especially in the way he read the game. That bodes well.
I've no idea about Carrick the coach and he hasn't been a manager. (3 matches at Man U is like saying Leo has been a manager). But if he is intelligent and has emotional intelligence then it would be reasonable to assume he has learned a lot from what he has experienced.

For me I would prefer he didn't come with Phelan, I'm not sure what he would bring in all honesty other than cost.

I've no idea about Wolf.
Parker has two promotions, not to be sneezed at. It seems churlish to say, but with clubs with strong squads and PP's.

Dyche would steady us now and get us up. He has done it with a much smaller club than us. But I don't see how he possibly fits into the Kieran Scott structure. I'd be far happier with Dyche, than Scott and a puppet.
Edwards shouldn't even be a consideration, it is a joke.

For me, you could have a wonderful rookie, or a disastrous one. Yesteryear's great player could be a masterstroke, or a Paul Merson.
You could get a lesser known foreign genius, or a disastrous one.
You could get an experienced wily campaigner, or a cynical over the hill dinosaur.

The "type" or profile of manager is much much less important than the quality. It is about picking the right one and judgement.

None of us can know who the real Carrick is. I just hope Gibson looks beyond the former great footballer (check) and at the overall package.
He simply has to get this one right.
