Change in Starmer’s tone

I remain (extremely) underwhelmed and unconvinced by Starmer but I am pleased to see that there has definitely been a shift in tone and intent over the past few days ( long overdue imo).
Hopefully he’s going to start ramping up the pressure and showing that he can be an effective leader of the opposition. Time for all parties to start capitalising on the many catastrophic failings of this corrupt government of charlatans …

He sniffs blood -

I think he's been biding his time, this was all going to come out. Strike too early and it will have a minimal effect I think he's going for the jugular now.

I quite like him and think he'll ultimately lead Labour to power. The last 18 months has been difficult on every level and to have gone into full on attack mode would have been portrayed by the Tories as playing party politics in the midst of a global pandemic, putting politics before lives. Given how much support Johnson seems to have had Starmer was wise to bide his time.

Now the corruption scandal is in full flow and massive cracks are appearing in the Tory party he has started shifting the focus to attacking them and he can go on for some time as there's no shortage of material.

Politics can be all about timing and IMHO he is making the right moves at the right times - the latest polls seem to support that feeling.

It's not accidental either, Raynor's whole remit for the last 12 months has been to concentrate on corruption.

This exactly, had he tried to oppose the Government too much at the height of the Pandemic he would (perhaps justifiably) have been accused of playing politics during a national crisis. As we come out of this situation, the gloves are off. Johnson is a busted flush, I just hope that if we go all the way to the five year term that the electorate don't forget what has been done and that if they replace Johnson that we remember that the Tories hold a collective responsibility for the inept and corrupt way that they have handled the Pandemic.

Being lead by his deputy.
I'm no fan of his personally - but I don't see this as a weakness.

Despite what the amoral blob in No. 10 thinks, we don't have a presidential system and the Prime Minister is not the be all and end all of government. The best Prime Minister this country has ever had was Clement Atlee, precisely because he managed the 'bigger' personalities beneath him so well. They all got on with their jobs and we got the welfare state and the NHS.

enough tories have supported the corruption in public votes it's going to be difficult to effectively distance yourself from the last couple of years

And don't worry.there is lots, lots more to come... especially with this procurement scandal and the giving out £ Billions in dodgy contracts....Anneliese Dodds was brilliant in the house yesterday ripping a strip off another stooge Bozo sent in to try and defend the indefensible...

and a divisive and damaging Brexit.... and a failed housing policy... and the decimation of council services.... and the lack of long term social care strategy... and a shocking backlog of NHS treatment.... and a foreign policy that has frittered away the respect the UK could hold....

He's pushing at an open door now. Johnson will be replaced sooner rather than later. Which crook will replace him?
I guess the tactic is to have them all tarred with the corruption brush? Only one who seems to be dodging the bullets at the moment is Rishi Sunak, who I think Starmer might have to hope for rampant inflation to pr*ck his bubble?

I voted for Boris Johnson in 2019. I believed his promises. I wish I didn't as he is just as bad, if not worse, than the rest of them.

He has lied and broken his Manifesto promises. Come next General Election, I won't be voting for him or the Tories again.

I never believed that HS2 was a good thing - but if it was going to be built, I always said it should be from the North downwards because we knew this would probably happen

Cancelling the Northern part, is like the Lib Dems and University Fees (I know that was a Tory Policy as well - but the Lib Dems took the blame)

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are witnessing how to lose a 80 seat majority

I can't say any more on Politics, due to mine and Rob's gentleman agreement

Exactly what I was driving at in my earlier post, though put much better Drummer Man. Even if the replacement to HS2 for Yorkshire has a better outcome, I think it really is a tuition fees moment. I've seen that clip of BJ in front of Stephenson's Rocket several times today. Those who voted for Boris because 'he gets things done' and 'is different from the rest' now have their tipping point to satisfy themselves that they were correct, but have been let down again!

I feel a bit like a prat - haha, but oh well... live and learn!
