Chris Cooke is new Mayor

Well done Chris.
Now its time for Preston to be removed from boards of STDC and MDC. But Bendy Houchen will no doubt find a way of keeping him.
Preston can't now be on the board of TVCA as this is reserved for council leaders only, Darlington, Stockton and Redcar results along Hartlepool negotiations -now it's hung with Labour as the largest group and will be getting a new leader, is vital for Houchen's combined authority.

Will he be off the MDC? Not listed in his mayoral capacity, but Preston himself said if he lost then his MDC position would go to the new Mayor. I'm sure he has changed stance on that this morning!

This is the result that matters, for our town no other results can compare.
People will be put first by Chris, it's exactly what our town needs.

I am totally ecstatic.
Wish him well the best of luck from me & Deb and that we both know he will give it his best shots.

Tell him we I knew when Deb washed his shirts and drive him to school. He will understand and know who we are from that.

Well done Chris.

Congratulations to Chris Cooke. When you actually look at the voting figures, the majority of the people of Middlesbrough didn’t vote for him. A poor turnout of only 27.75%, Chris winning with only 39.87% of that vote. Not such a huge ringing endorsement really. More people voted against him than actually for him. Just hope Chris delivers his promises or he will be out on his ears just like Preston. One major issue in my eyes, collect all the outstanding council tax debt over the last 10-12 years and budgets could be increased to help with social care and highways

The rules on this is very opaque, I'm sure we will be looking very closely at this in the next few days.

how many were 'turned away' cos of the ID malarkey ?

mentions of 2 Million being made this morning across the piece - & the incorrect process being followed, turning voters away at the door, so that they didnt enter the voting station and cant be counted as 'officially' refused a vote - voter suppression by the tory government at a time when it should never be easier to vote theyre making it more difficult.

Lots didn't get turned away because lots didn't even go, because they knew they couldn't vote, it's not possible to count them.
