Christmas Parties At Work

We're having a virtual Xmas party. Young grads are organising it (fair enough I certainly couldn't be arsed) but the "activity" they've come up with for the first half of it is a decorate a gingerbread house competition. Which I definitely won't be doing.

Don't think it's landed too well with the other grumpy old gits on the team. On the up side though it starts at 1pm during work time and drinking is allowed.....🍺

The lengths people will go to ! Gingerbread house competition dear me

Never really enjoyed a Christmas party, unless I was single at the time. More of a chore. Delighted I don’t have any guilt of not showing up or leaving early.
It’s alway irritated me that at this time of year, colds and flu, we shake hands the most - happy that’s not happening this year!
Reasons to be thankful 😂

We’re donating a good portion of it to charity, but also have arranged a little party food hamper for each member of staff and we are having a zoom Xmas party

I am the same to be honest mate. I show up but hate it really. Happy to have the year off it this year

The Mrs works for one of the banks and they normally get 30 per head towards a Christmas lunch, I overheard her today and their staff are been given the option to donate it to charity. Seems sensible.

They also keep organising these zoom / social well being events - I suppose it’s the next best thing to going to the pub, but normally when I have to endure management telling you how great they are I prefer to have a few beers inside of me! Maybe it works for some people and gives a degree of normality.

Going all teary with nostalgia when I think back to my early office parties. They were fantastic. Everybody in the mood. Just a fabulous time to be at work. Excitement of the holiday to come as well and the celebrations in the office, the pub and the party itself.

Where did you work mate? Sounds good a good **** up

There’s not enough of us left!

50 blokes down to 14 after redundancies and restructuring and there’s only 4 of us that haven’t been furloughed in my department.

Usually it’s just a mammoth pub crawl but nothing this year.

You only need one bloke for a good bender 🤩 . I did it when Maggie died and went to Swatters Carr and ordered a bottle of champagne. Had a great afty , peculiarly there was a few blokes doing the same

I've never been one for Xmas parties. I work for a very large company and the majority of people I work with I tolerate through necessity, I have always feared the outcome of me socialising with them during none working hours!

I think that this year we are being given vouchers for the total of the per person spend this year. It should be interesting to see what that equates to in real terms!

All sorts happening at ours. Virtual socials with drinks and food delivered to everyone, Christmas presents to be sent on the company for your direct reports, and some really good meetings on zoom around mental well-being. We had Ollie Ollerton from SAS: Who Dares Wins today doing an hour presentation on mindset and mental well-being.

My girlfriend had a virtual Xmas party with her work friends and I ‘attended’

We pretty much just got takeaway and got drunk. She works in Brighton, I was the only bloke taking part and other than my girlfriend everyone on the call was with their wife if you catch my drift. It was a eye opener.

Was it not as bad as you were expecting?

Sounds they are going all out!

I worked on a hospital ward in the early 90s. All the wards used to pick different dates for their ward night out. We used to go on them all. Wrecked for a fortnight and some great " you will never guess what happened" moments over the years.
