Comments on Tav

I’m not crying in my cornflakes that tav is on his way, I’m waiting and watching for a body as a replacement
Let’s face it….tav was good but also frustrating and not as good as his brother….doesn’t grab a game by the ‘scruff of a neck’ and kill it off….misses sitters and never scored enough for his talent.
Bournemouth is a money move for him because they coming straight back down.

Who is coming in….seems CW really doesn’t fancy payero because he really plays tavs position!

He's still developing his game, I just don't get Bournemouth - other than PL money & a nice area to live, it seems - from football point of view, it's not a, great, big or progressive move: money.

I genuinely think it could be a negative impact on his game. I don't expect them to be doing anything this season other than battle to escape the relegation places.

Good luck to him, players move on, though wrong club to leave for imho..

It has a little bit of Ben Gibson to it. I thought the same when he went to Burnley. I see us as 'bigger' than Burnley and Bournemouth yet couldn't provide prem football.

Whilst it's a definite payrise (probably double) and a nice new 4 years. I just think he'd have been better giving us another year.

He's definitely going to be in a relegation battle. I'm assuming pumped most weeks and very little of the ball. Then probably straight back down. Add to that a very strong chance Parker will get the boot by Xmas (will the new gaffer fancy Tav?)

Then it's playing in front of 11k and woeful away support. Just think he could do 'better'. That or give us another year if Wilder can land all his targets. I suggest throwing him a new deal with a 'give us one more year' clause. A little payrise and let him go with our blessing if we don't go up.

Oh well. I think he's really going to be hard to replace with the money with have. We probably have to replace him with half of what we receive (at best). Good luck finding someone 'as good' or better.

Then again my bitter side hopes we swap leagues at the end of the season knowing he's thinking 'that didn't workout' 😂

Think it's purely a shop window move. Play well, get noticed, move on to a bigger PL team. He obviously feels he has more chance doing this next season with Bournemouth than seeing what happens season after next with Boro.
Honestly thought another season with Wilder would develop his game further......and if we don't go up, he leaves an even better player. Oh well.
I'm disappointed he's going and good luck to him - but I've missed the bit where he's suddenly become a Zidane/Robson/Pirlo clone. We can replace him, need to have a bit of faith.

I agree Bournemouth isn’t the club I would have chosen but he’s young, attracted by the area down there and of course the money! I’m guessing if Bournemouth get relegated he can move on to another Club if he shows he’s good enough and as a confident player that would be very much in his and his agents thinking.

Exactly! Surely it’s cheaper for us to keep him but in a much higher wage than find a replacement. Unless he really wants to go, of course…

I think it's having the faith that's the issue. OK he isn;t a world beater but he's a really good championship player who I think is capable of being a really good premier league player. How confident am I that we'll a) spend the money, b) spend it wisely - probably 50/50

A bird in the hand and all that.

Well I guess thats the issue. The moment any player (or manager) says they want to leave then get shot.

If he said 'i want to go' then I wouldn't stand in anyone's way. You don't want a player sulking for a month then to sell him anyhow. I mean he's not the happiest at the best of times 😂

No player is bigger than the club. He had his best season last season. Before that he was inconsistent. So the fee is good for me.

He is replaceable. But whoever does replace him we need to give time and benefit of the doubt. Boro fans spent 2 of the last 3 years slagging Tav off! Most of us could see his potential.

I think Bournemouth is a strange move for him but he has a better chance of a long term premier league career with this move than staying with us.

We have lost the energy in midfield but we have a few weeks to replace and complete the rebuild. Get behind the lads for Saturday is what I say. It’s football players come and go.

Looking at it from the other perspective -

Tavernier will get a big pay rise...
and play in the Premier League...
and a new contract...
Bournemouth may stay up...
and Boro might not be promoted (right now you'd have to think it's very unlikely)...
...and he's just coming into the best years of his career

No brainer really.

I don't really think Bournemouth will suit him because they will be defending for their lives and he isn't really going to have much opportunity to showcase his attacking ability

Not sure if true but Bournemouth fans think he’s been brought in to play wing back which I thinks an odd one. Lads a midfielder

Unless he is destined to be a more defensive "all over the pitch" type of MF, there to track people all over the pitch, break attacks up etc. Let's face it his finishing and set piece delivery is generally f*cking awful so can't see him adding 10+ goals to his game in the PL.
His problem, not ours 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree that he's still developing and not yet the finished article but he's only 23 and already played 135 games...He's going to continue to improve and add goalscoring to his game. We should all be really disappointed that he's leaving. If we are going to get into the Premier League (and stay there) then Tav is just the sort of 'upward curve' player that we are going to need....it's a big blow IMO !!
Thanks 👍

I think there's been a huge over reaction.

He's a young, talented lad but we're by no means losing prime Xavi like some are making out. He's often sloppy in possession and doesn't score enough goals for a player with his remit in the team.

It's good money, for a player that cost us nothing. It's my personal opinion that he can be replaced with the money brought in, with someone equally as good if not better, and have some money left over to reinvest elsewhere.

Smart move from the club to start with, what will make it a REALLY smart move is what we do with the money.

Maybe Bournemouth are the only EPL club who are prepared to pay £10m plus for a young player unproven at that level? From Tav's point of view this is probably an opportunity he needs to take to further his career as it may not come round again, he'll also be getting a salary increase and if he has any ambition to play at a higher level this is an opportunity he needs to take. Bournemouth's also quite a nice place to live!

Wholeheartedly agree.
I think it’s not a wise move….who knows though, maybe CW quietly wants the money for reinvestment and thinks tav hasn’t anymore to offer…ie not tough enough for him etc etc…..could be that….

I'm really not sure Tav or Spence will get much premier league game time at all - half expect one of them to be loaned out somewhere in Jan.

Look at what happened to Tomlin when we sold him to Bournemouth.

I hope Tav proves me wrong and really kicks on to be a PL regular, he won me over in the last 15+ games last season, i wasn't a fan before that.

Spence...call me harsh, but I hope he fails miserably.
