Connolly really ?

Is ‘numpty’ an insult? It’s more like a friendly one, like ‘Doyle’ isn’t it?
depends, if it's someone you've known for years then it's jokey, but if it's someone you don't know then it isn't, it's condescending at a minimum and totally out of the blue, but it's the world we're in where people casually act in this way dragging the tone down.

I thought you were better than throwing daft insults

It clearly is personal, he was getting grief before he had put a foot on the field for us.
I didn’t give him grief before I’d seen him play 3 full games so don’t tar everyone with the same brush - that’s all I’m saying and when you throw around comments like that expect some thing back which isn’t too palatable 👍

Connolly’s stats suggest he has never been much of a goal scorer.

Don’t understand persevering with him as a starter.

We have better options and it is time to try them out.

Any dropped points now could well make the difference when it comes to making the playoffs.

Have to trust Wilder to make that call. He has seen him in training So must see something. I would start him at Old Trafford and see if he rises to the occasion. If not then he loses his place for the bigger game at Loftus road.

From our manager

'So we just write him off after three games? Let’s not judge him on three games. He’s here for 19 games. I’ve brought Aaron in and everyone makes an immediate judgement. I don’t because he’s a good player'

Some people need to calm down.

Wilder obviously has an issue with Howson and Watmore is it they can't last the distance in a game? I think Jonny & Dunc are the ones falling foul of his management, but I don't think Connolly or if Hendrick joins is improving the team.

I didn't say that YOU gave him grief...I didn't throw any comment at YOU (or indeed any insults at all) to deserve any childish insults back, this is all happening in your head. Shame you couldn't be man enough to admit you were wrong and out of order. But that's a reflection of your character not mine.

I was disappointed with his performance at the weekend but I agree, start him at United and give him one more chance to impress. The game's a free hit for me so not the end of the world if he doesn't do the business. Equally he could make himself a hero if he ends up being the match-winner.

I do think we need to play to his strengths more in the sense of trying to play him in behind. He said in his first interview that his strengths are pace and running off the shoulder, so lets play to those strengths. We kept playing balls over the top to him at the weekend rather than attempting through balls.

He probably isn't wrong on either of those players not lasting the distance, Warnock rarely gave Watmore the full 90, and with Wilder demanding defence from the front, then I'm not entirely surprised. Howson at 33 is also struggling with the pace at times, that's no surprise really

exactly this, he would do better with Payero in midfield, someone who plays with their head up. I also feel it should be Connolly or Sporar in the side with support from Balogun or Watmore. That's a better mix
I've noticed Tav has tried to play him through a couple of times and it hasn't quite come off. Payero played a lovely ball through to Sporar the other day so definitely has it in his locker.

Absolutely! That’s my point, we have no time to waste, he’s had 3 games and shown almost nothing!
Points are crucial for the play offs as a minimum

agree, but then those minutes have been exclusively at prem level, and as a teenager for half those games as well. Any teenager that doesn't look like an idiot playing the prem has some qualities. There are very few teenager strikers that play and score regularly in the prem. I think when he gets the first one and a bit of confidence he'll be flying. Strikers are a funny bunch, they have egos, yet are fragile emotionally.

He's been backup to Maupay and Trossard largely, not that many minutes, after bursting onto the scene at 18 he probably feels a bit unloved and a spare part. He hasn't hit the net since September. They haven't even given him any U23 game time for confidence, he's just been sat getting splinters.

I can see a player in there, he's up for the physical fight, shows decent movement, just needs one to go in off his butt.

Your not going to let this go are you. How many games are left 19? 20? If he scores more than 3 i will be amazed.

Connelly has energy and makes things happen, he unfortunately is not a prolific goalscorer which he has been brought in to do, but play him behind the front two and he causes problems, he runs into the spaces and Is a nuisance.
I am not writing him off yet , he has a part to play IF his head is right after his off field goings on with his partner. Make or break time for him.
I hope he comes out of it positive.

Front three! Front three!

Jones—Connolly—Watmore

Sporar—Coburn—Balogun

Sporar—Coburn—Connolly

Sporar—Balogun—Connolly

But you'll also see at no point did I say he will guarantee goals, I said don't write him off, he's putting the effort in, and it's too early to judge properly...and it was. If we judged Zenden after 2 games he would have been booted out of the first team and the club. Some people take time to settle. Connolly hasn't had the goal return we would have hoped, that's obvious, but he has offered something to the team just not quite enough so far.

I think he's good enough to get 7-10 in the remaining games, purely on his movement and effort.
Comparing him with zenden is a joke, zenden had huge pedigree, he had played regularly for barca and chelsea. Most people knew zendens quality it just took a tactical change to get the best out of him. Contrast that with relatively unknown quantity Connolly, who you keep insisting has talent, i will say it again in what exactly are you seeing that everyone else isnt.

Connolly has rarely shown promise during his career.

Brighton have problems up front and are crying out for a half decent striker, and yet they were more than happy to let him go on loan...the warning signs should've been there straight away.

We need to drop him if we want to give ourselves the best chance of getting into the play offs.

He doesn't offer us anything different/extra to what we already have.

He's been very disappointing and he's been largely poor in the the majority of his games.

I find it very bizarre that anyone can defend him and think he should be an automatic starter for us.

I'm not comparing him am I. I'm comparing the fans reactions with early validation of a player. We've seen it plenty of times with players written of after 2 games, or adored after a debut to become a flop.
