Covid inquiry evidence

Isn’t it amazing how no senior politician (or celebrity for that matter) seems able to figure out how to transfer apps/data from one phone to another? No-one in the real world would ever buy a new phone if it meant losing everything off your old one.
The cabinet office have thrown their own grenade back at Johnson, claiming his still has the phone prior to May 21 within their response

The optics are absolutely terrible here - Sunak making the Govt look very, very guilty indeed. I'd guess the documents and messages etc will open up a huge can of worms around bad advice, avoidable deaths and dodgy contracts in black and white for friends of Ministers.

Corruption reigns in the Tory party.

Their handling of absolutely anything they touch is so utterly shambolic it's barely believable. Even if you had no moral compass surely no-one in their right mind would vote for a government clearly so far out of its depth on every single issue?

They're not even good at being corrupt, they only get away with it as much as they have because their backers control the media and our outdated system of government has no real teeth to hold them to account.

You'd think given the lengths they're going to, and the political damage this is going to do to them, that there must be absolute dynamite in these messages.

But with this lot you never know. Part of me wouldn't be surprised if it was all a bit underwhelming. They seem to have no grasp of what is scandalous and what isn't. Suppose that's what happens when you operate in a moral vacuum.

So, who would have thought it. Johnson hasn’t turned over all his messaging.
Not from the phone he was using pre, and around the lockdown period..2020.
EDIT:
He’s claiming the ‘Spooks’ told him not to turn it on again. So maybe it is compromised😉

His old phone will ‘disappear’ before it ever sees the light of day.

I changed my phone last year, I have WhatsApp messages on my new phone from 4 years ago…I’m assuming there is a way to not carry your messages forward, but that it would be a conscious decision to make a ‘safe break point’ to do so, then the question would be ‘why would one do this’?

The redoubtable @carolvorders

“This Tory government disgusts me.
Bethell was the Minister in charge of Covid Contracts. He was a close ally of Hancock. Bethell did a lot of dealing on his phone. Guess what? He replaced his phone in 2021 cos the other one was "broken".. Well well well who'd have thought it?

Meanwhile there’s people claiming that given the phone number and password WhatsApp messages are still retrievable.

I think they have become skilled at surrounding serious issues with confusion and farce, behaving like argumentative public schoolboys until everybody gets tired of it all and they get away with breaking the law.

They have created such a vortex of sh*t people get angry and annoyed at one incident, then there is another, and another......and by the time the 10/15/20/25th one has surfaced people have forgot about the first one. Which is usually then buried, or the lies have been spun so much the original controversy has been well and truly watered down, the seeds of doubt sown.

It's the GOP/Bannon/Trump playbook.......been successful for a few years, the narcissists involved believing they are invincible and above any accountability whatsoever.

But they are not. And I hope if/when Labour get into power they conduct full inquiries into the industrial scale corruption that the Tories have been involved in and not simply "move on".

Not sure it's always by design mind. Sometimes hard to tell when it's an intentional tactic or it's just Tories being Tories.

Same with trump I suppose. There's no way Trump is doing it just for calculated effect. It's who he is. But the people who've been behind him (eg Bannon) encourage the behaviour because they know it works.

5 minutes ago:

He does have the phone, and he will now turn it over to the inquiry.
( James O B show )
The letter containing all this should be available apparently.
