Dael Fry

If he can’t improve on the ball and do what we need him to do then it makes sense to cash in on him. We need to stop being scared of selling players, especially ones that don’t fit.
on that basis which is absolute nonsense Ugo Ehiogu wouldn't have got into wilders team.

Correct. It’s a different game now.
i dont think it is the art of defending is defending, first and foremost and always will be. To suggest and england international cant play for an average second tier team because of ball skills is ridiculous.

Sorry I thought you meant if we were in the Premier League, obviously Ehiogu would play for a Championship side.

Fry is a good player but hasn't grown into the dominant CB that I had hoped, he constantly gets bullied buy a physical striker, If wilder doesn't fancy him then I would sell now rather than risk him going for nothing in a years time, I do however feel Fry is better suited to premier league football and would be better in a back 4 as appose to a 3, could probably go and get this greaves and Michael helik

He constantly gets bullied by physical strikers? What nonsense. Someone said he lacked pace earlier, he's not Usain Bolt granted but for a big centre half he can shift. Soo many fallacies created online sometimes.

Not bullied exactly, but he is nowhere near tough, aggressive or dominant enough to be a 'main man' centre back in the champo. He may have been one of those attitude over ability players Wilder mentioned after Preston?

He has the skills, the undoubted quality other than his passing under pressure maybe. He's a pretty big, strong lad with a good header on him. The fact he has 2 goals in 165 appearances is pretty poor, he's up for every set piece, he just doesn't seem to have that aggression or killer instinct to make a ball his.

I assume that is why Wilder felt the need to bring a Lenihan type centre half in, he is looking not just for a tidy defender, but a leader and organiser who will bust a gut to get on the end of things.

In an ideal world, if his contract is long enough and he is willing to stay and fight for his place then keep him, as he's more than good enough for us other than the aforementioned passing.

But if that isn't the case, he wants to be first choice or won't sign an extension say, then the recruitment team & Wilder need to decide that if they have identified someone who is a better fit that we can get, then is it better for MFC to sell him now.

He's not our captain and a beast at the back, he's nowhere as important to us as Tav was, he isn't our main striker. He's a nice tidy centre half, who has some potential and has acquitted himself well playing against PL teams. He lacks some of the physical and psychological toughness required to make it as really good defender for me.

If he stays great, if he is sold and we get an adequate replacement who can cover the central role in the back three as well as Fry and play on the left better than any of our other defenders then we are better off surely?

Rumours from Hull mates that Grieves is off.

I feel like their strong start to the season might throw a bit of hesitation in to that situation.

It's a long season, and I don't expect to see Hull up there by the end, but it's probably harder to convince yourself to leave your hometown club to join a club that's 17 places below Hull in the table.

I respect your opinion but i completely disagree with pretty much every aspect of that post. Dael Fry is hugely undervalued by a large proportion of our fan base, much in the way Tav was until last season (and even then we still had dissenters). Another player that you don't realise how important he is until he's gone or missing from the team...as we've already seen this season.

I think you overvalue Fry. Tav I agree with you on, he was a massive player for us.

The goals we've conceded during our start to the season would suggest otherwise.
No, we conceded stupid goals last season too with Fry in the team. It’s football. I’m convinced Lenihan can get to a really good level for us with a bit of patience and a settled back line. I think Fry is great option for us and he can push Lenihan all the way but I understand if he decides to leave. I think they are both centre backs in the middle of a 3.

Agree with Tav, it's only now that many people see what a good player he was for us - one was always destined for the EPL.

But I'm not entirely in agreement with your view on Fry - I think he's a top player but I'm still not convinced that he's a "winner" as such and think this prevents him realising his full and absolute potential.

I think he has the abilities needed to play PL football, but competing in professional sport at the top level is as much about application as it is ability.

I think CW see Fry through this lens too.

Lenihan hasn't had a great start (though good goal contribution on Sunday). He must be better than he's shown thus far (otherwise he wouldn't have made it into the championship team of the season last year). Like with our position in the table, let's see where we are after 10 games and how many we have conceded.
I do think Fry could be the last big name departure this season (depending on offers and if we can get Greaves. Big if, but certainly possible.

I really thought Fry would kick on in our system. He looked comfortable when playing midfield on a couple of occasions in the distant past. However, much to my surprise on Sunday he just seemed to want to lump the ball ip, which is not how Wilder wants us to play. He also didn’t make himself available for Steffen on several occasions from goal kicks. I am not sure he has had much competition in recent years so I think he needs to step ip a bit to remain in Wilders good books. He is a very good CB in my eyes but seems to lack an edge to propel him into a top player. The way the refs are letting things go this season he needs to be more physical. The same goes for Dijksteel on that front.
