Deal accepted for Morgan Rogers.

Apologies if this has been dealt with in the last 19 pages, but didnt want to start a new thread.

In terms of Man City getting a percentage;

- Is that just of the profit made by us (i.e. anything over the 1.5 paid)?
- If it is 20% (for example) would this be 20% of the overall deal, or the upfront payment? By that I mean might some of the 20% be dependent on add ons too?

To be fair I imagine no one will know - so I'll take the first reply as gospel!
I would guess the % is based on profit.. that was certainly the suggestion of our sell on clause in the Spence deal when he went to Spurs.. hence we're not going to see anything on that one!

If we win on Sunday we could easily be 2-3 points off play-offs at most. If the other extreme happened, it would feel odd to write the season off entirely with 17 matches left to play.

I know he was a decent player but 2 league goals playing number ten is hardly 'irreplaceable'.

Never knew he was a Villa fan, so even more understandable that he wants to go I suppose.

I don't think two league goals is necessarily an indicator of how good a player is. Juniniho got two league goals in his first season playing as a 10, but we loved him because we could see how good he was.
Not that I'm saying Rogers in as good as him! But it shows you can't take a single stat and use it to prove anything.

And Thomas. I think Leicester have an option of a further year with him, which I'm sure they'd take to ensure they get a fee, but if he does well I think we could sign him too.
He certainly looks like the type of player we would look at long term. Fits "the profile". Let's see.

Where that leaves Engel and Bangura if he does fit straight in.......🤔🤔

Daughters boyfriend is a big Leicester fan, and his incisive comments on him we're "yeah, he's alright". "Alright" Maldini or "alright" Alan Wright.....watch this space......

It's funny how little effort Sky put in to their analysis of signings from the Championship.

Claiming Rogers has been brought in to create goals from them as he has the 2nd most assists in the Championship.

He has the joint 9th most and has scored less than the 5 players he's joint with.

Even if you assume he actually meant in all competitions from a Championship player, he's joint 3rd with 4 other players.

Man City aren't going to notice a couple of million here and there, probably get away with it being 20% of the upfront fee ;)

I thought that when Neville was commentating on the second leg.

He didnt have a clue.

Calling players by their numbers etc

I'm surprised that people see this transfer as part of a 'trend' or an example of our 'model' of buying potential, developing the player and selling for a profit.

I think selling a 1.5m player for 10m within 6 months is very much a one off and I think too many posters are reading too much into it.

I fooking hope its a trend

Brilliant by the club if that becomes the norm.

It's a bit demoralising. What is the point of signing promising players if they just get snapped up before they can push your team onwards? Yes it brings money in but that isn't why I watch football. I do it for sporting glory, not to get a bonk on when the yearly accounts are published like many on here seem to.
Admirable but naive sentiment. The way of the football world works now, like it or not, is essentially ....

The Real Madrids feed on the Chelseas
The Chelseas feed on the Villas
The Villas feed on the Boros
The Boros feed on the Plymouths
The Plymouths feed on the Peterboroughs
etc
etc
etc

..... and on down the football food chain

Some awesome comprehension skills exhibited there fella. Bravo.

If it's OK with you I would just rather prefer to keep our more talented players in order to build a squad that can challenge for automatic promotion.
Agreed.
Like the Brighton model actually was while they were in the Championship.
Get as good a set of players as you can to get promoted, Owner bankrolls the wage bill/covers losses until promotion.
THEN the model of investing in players to trade up starts when in the PL with the revenue to do so.

We need a squad to get us up. Moving talent on too early will not assemble that squad. The squad will be in major churn, always waiting for prospects to shine. When they do they will be sold quickly. When they don't you are stuck with them filling out your squad.
We have a squad of 30 (29 as Rogers leaves). There is nowhere near the quality required to go up. Rogers going has just sucked current quality and for next season.

We don't know the precise detail of Rogers coming to us, or leaving us.
If the add ons are realistic then the valuation set may be reasonable given his current position.

I will be sad not to see Rogers anymore, he was obvious talent from his debut and he is the only current player who really excites me.

That's who I meant when I said the other two. Thomas and Ayling. Both out of contract 👍🏻

I think we'll sign Ayling for another year...

Thomas is one off the most valuable players in the league - £10m valuation on transfermarkt.... I can't see us being able to pull that one off on a free.

Lots of folks being very generous with Gibson wallet.

On the general subject of selling Rogers. I find it interesting that we defer to experts on other fields, global warming, vaccinations for example. However when it comes to valuing a footballer some are choosing to ignore the experts and apply their own valuations. Quite the trick for a plumber from Thornaby.

I know that sharing opinions is part of football and we all do it, but to completely dismiss the opinions of the decision makers at the club seems a bit odd.

Why will they all leave, surely not because we've cashed in on a player who may or may not turn out decent?
I think Colgate is right though - if we don’t go up ,which seems most likely, we will almost certainly lose Hackney, and McGree was rumoured to be looking for a move this season. Jones hasn’t signed a new deal yet, and as pointed out already O’Brien may return to Forest, and we may be looking for two new full backs. That is quite a rebuild once again.
