Deal accepted for Morgan Rogers.

I'm not making a case for Gilbert turning out to be as good as Rogers, I'm just saying we have 3-5 players who can also strongly compete for the number 10 shirt and who knows, 1 or 2 may even turn out to be as good or better. Greenwood certainly can on his day, Azaz looked good on his debut. etc etc.

I fully expect McGree and Jones to be shoo-ins out wide when both fit.

Put it this way, if someone said now that Gilbert will only turn out to be as a good as Rogers I'd snap your hand off!
I think azaz is the no 10

But it’s ahead of him I worry about.

I think Forss starts wide right ahead of Jones if everyone is fit. Jones has done well this season, but Forss is much better at cutting inside as well as being a much better finisher.

You mean like claiming people get a bonk on over accounts? You don't exaggerate at all yourself do you?

You can lose young talented players for the right money and still compete, Brentford did it every year, if anything it helps you build a better squad. They lost Konsa and Maupay for big money one year then finished 3rd, they lost Watkins and Benrahma the season after and finished 3rd again.
A quick check on Wikipedia and Konsa played 42 times for Brentford, Maupay 85, Watkins 132 and Benrahma 83. Rogers has 26 appearances for us. Brentford certainly benefited from having them in their team in achieving those third places.

Were they offered £16m for any of them after 2 league goals?

Brentford finished 11th in 18/19 with Konsa and Maupay, they both left and they then finished 3rd. Neither of them contributed to finishing 3rd in terms of playing but they did fund the signings of Mbuemo, Jansson, Jensen, Norgaard, Raya and Pinnock who all played 35+ games that season.

Ok so I misread your post regarding the finish in positions but the point was more about selling players you had developed and got the benefit from in your team.

I guess those guys proved their ability long term and losing them was a serious loss to Brentfords on field ability............but they coped.

Despite defending Morgan, yes he's had great moments of ability, but, to balance that out, he's learning on the job and that means making mistakes too. We've made that haelthy profit without having to be the ones tempering his ability with his inexperience.

Anyway. Rogers (10>16), Akpom (12), Spence (12), Tavernier (10). That's 44-50m recouped in just 18 months. It's pretty clear that our recruitment and negotiations have improved....and that's about 40 of profit too.

We now have lots of FFP wiggle room, I think we still had about 5m before selling rogers. So if the right players are available, we will go get them. If not then it will happen in the summer.

Play offs will be a bonus this year, they were last year to be honest, we over acheived based on years of neglectful squad building and this year being shorn of so many of our best talents sent us back to square one. Next year, a lot of players will have had a year to acclimatise and will hit the ground runnning, I highly doubt the last two years of slow starts will be repeated. 3 good players and we will be good to go. To kick on.

We are relying on loans this season as well. And I suspect we will continue to rely on loans to plug gaps going forward. Sign players we see as good value and bring in loans to fill areas we've struggled to find the right signings. I don't see it as a negative. It's a necessity.

We've now got 4 players on loan this season and I expect all 4 players will play plenty of matches in the back half of the season.

I get the impression that the last two loan players are only here because we have injuries. Wouldn't be surprised if we signed Greenwood or O'Brien over the summer.

Until early December most would probably have had Greenwood ahead of Rogers. Big opportunity for the Makem now - hopefully scores against his mates on Sunday!

I wouldn't be surprised if we signed either of the other 2 either to be honest as they are both out of contract.

There will always be injuries and things that come up through a season, or players that might leave and replacements not found. I just think we'll use loans as required.

Interesting that the team on official website has Gilbert down as a striker, but has Azaz and Greenwood as midfielders.

And Thomas. I think Leicester have an option of a further year with him, which I'm sure they'd take to ensure they get a fee, but if he does well I think we could sign him too.

Apologies if this has been dealt with in the last 19 pages, but didnt want to start a new thread.

In terms of Man City getting a percentage;

- Is that just of the profit made by us (i.e. anything over the 1.5 paid)?
- If it is 20% (for example) would this be 20% of the overall deal, or the upfront payment? By that I mean might some of the 20% be dependent on add ons too?

To be fair I imagine no one will know - so I'll take the first reply as gospel!
