Deal accepted for Morgan Rogers.

While I'm sure the club has been very shrewd with these dealings the whole thing smacks of a big problem that is diminishing football.

The whole thing is propped up by dodgy money and crooked agents and talented young lads like Rogers get sucked into it chasing dreams and end up sitting on a bench or back out on loan.

But yeah, good luck to the lad, it's not his fault the game is rigged he's just playing it the best way he can and hopefully it works out for him

Sucked into chasing dreams that set him up financially for life. Fair play to him.

I have no problem with lads going to Saudi for footy of Liv Golf. The sums of money that make your life comfortable until you die are just out of this world.

It's a bit demoralising. What is the point of signing promising players if they just get snapped up before they can push your team onwards? Yes it brings money in but that isn't why I watch football. I do it for sporting glory, not to get a bonk on when the yearly accounts are published like many on here seem to.
This will make this seasons accounts look pretty good which will hopefully open up to buy that 1-2 players we desperately need in the summer. We will be able to start next season picking up points rather than take 7-8 games to put our boots on the right feet.

Brighton have been selling players but just go out and replace them. Southampton have also done the same over the years. We have to hone the model of buy replace to move forward as a Club. Yes it is sad to see a Morgan Rogers go but I’m sure a few more Rogers are out there to find and develop.

Hopefully you are right but I think there is a strong chance we lose at least 3 more in the summer. Hackney, RVDB, Mcgree, possibly Jones. Both our probable first choice fullbacks are loans and may not be here next season. O'brien may not be here, Howson can't go on forever. If that happens, and i know it's hypothetical then we have a massive rebuilding job again.

Why will they all leave, surely not because we've cashed in on a player who may or may not turn out decent?

We can go back to buying expensive ***** that no one else wants to buy if you like?

Some awesome comprehension skills exhibited there fella. Bravo.

If it's OK with you I would just rather prefer to keep our more talented players in order to build a squad that can challenge for automatic promotion.
I want us to win the Champions League too but unfortunately I understand where we are.

Yes, that's the same thing. Exactly the same.
You mean like claiming people get a bonk on over accounts? You don't exaggerate at all yourself do you?

You can lose young talented players for the right money and still compete, Brentford did it every year, if anything it helps you build a better squad. They lost Konsa and Maupay for big money one year then finished 3rd, they lost Watkins and Benrahma the season after and finished 3rd again.

Ultimately the club's owners, and management team, who are intimately familiar with our finances and the realities of running a club like ours, have decided it makes good financial sense.

As fans we look at things emotionally, but they have to take those emotions out of business transactions. I don't think Gibbo has always been able to do that (as a fan himself) and as a result he has continued to have to top up the coffers which is clearly unsustainable. It appears that common sense is starting to prevail.

Footballers are expensive and risky assets and as with anything they are only worth what someone else is willing to pay for them. By their very nature footballers are exposed to physical risk, they can be worth 15 million today and written off tomorrow. On balance the club will have looked at risk and reward and decided this makes financial sense. That's fine by me.

Colgate is right, if we sell at the first sign of interest then we'll struggle to move forward.
If money does indeed talk then at some point we have to answer back by saying that the player will move when it suits us.
We've lost one of our better plays when the squad is already stretched thinly and have just two days to now spend the money from the sale. If we can't get a deal over the line then we will be weaker without doubt.
I've no objection to selling players for a profit, it's good business, but we have to feel some long term benefit from the talent we develop and I don't think we have done that with Rogers.
Doing away with the January window would help tremendously.

I have grown to embrace player sales, in fact I get quite excited about selling a player for big bucks. Can't wait to see what we get for Jones, Rav and the Redcar Redondo this summer.

Don't get attached is what I say. Other than the odd one from Teesside, players rarely do.

That’s a joke right !
Not at all. I said it on a thread recently, the last player I felt disappointed about losing was Lee Tomlin almost 9 years ago. I love it when we get the big bucks through the door.💰

People are asking 'Why are we selling our best player again?' - I'm honestly not sure Morgan is in our top 5. Dieng/Rav/Hackney/Jones/McGree would all give him a run for his money.

Wouldn’t say I get excited but it definitely feels good knowing that our recruitment is good enough to identify these players when usually we end up with expensive flops.

Similarly the last player I was bothered about losing was Barry Robson.
