Deal accepted for Morgan Rogers.

Because the deals are based on the players. The type of player Wharton is, is very difficult to find. He's controlling the midfield in games at 19 years old.
Similar (and comparable) to the Alex Scott deal when he was sold to Bournemouth.

Rogers is a great player, I've always liked him - but he is worth less money than Wharton because he doesn't bring what Wharton brings to the team.
It's not hard to find though, it's even less hard to find for a Premier League team. How well is he actually even "controlling" the midfield considering Blackburn have won one league game in their last ten and conceded 3-4 goals in about half those games, so what are Palace, a team in a relegation battle and struggling to find wins all season, seeing that has them offering £18m right away for a central midfielder in a team consistently getting battered in a worse league.

Comparatively, Aston Villa are a team in the top four of the Premier League that have apparently deemed Morgan Rogers their priority target and have been desperate to sign him, who has been one of our few creative sparks the last few months, and whose goals and assists have essentially just taken us to a cup semi-final.

Easy enough to compare transfers from other Championship clubs selling to Premier League teams beyond comparing the players themselves, given the different factors involved.

25% of the profit so presumably its £2.25M, leaves nearly £8M in the kitty with the chance of some more further down the line. A big thumbs up from me.

I know he's a local lad but didn't he have enough of constant loan spells and playing U23 football at City, where is he going to play in the Villa first XI.

So surely we now just go back to Man City and ask for the next player who’s not quite good enough to make it with them. We’ll make them another nice little profit in 6 months. Easy this transfer lark.

Still sparks me as a very strange move from Villa. I think we can all agree the last 7/8 games Rogers has certainly stood out but he did take a long time to settle. The fact he was their number 1 target is weird. Will he go straight in? You wouldn't of thought so. The transfer of £10m upfront plus add-ons isnt a large sum of money for a team like Villa so its worth a punt, I wonder if they have looked at the impact Cole Palmer has made and basically its a no lose situation for them. I wish him well, I will certainly be sadder when Hackney flys the nest but the 'model' is working as long as we keep striking gold. Fair play to Kieran Scott and everybody concerned. Looking forward to the next couple of years as long as we can keep Carrick

Shame to see him go, was just starting to develop, inevitable that it would happen once Villa showed their interest and kept bidding. Not sure we necessarily need a like for like replacement or to reinvest this window unless we had a target already identified. Might take same pressure off selling Hackney in the summer?

If he goes there and ends up in the stiffs like he did at Man City he might well be another Spence drifting around on loan into his early 20's

At 21 the lad really needs to play football every week, just my opinion
I think he's jumping prematurely too. He's had a handful of decent games against Championship opposition. For me he should have given it another year, at least.

Terrell ! is already here with us in U21 and been moved into the CM or DM position instead of RB or RM as he did for City U21. I've been told he is a replicant of Rogers but might need an extra 6 months in the bag.

I personally think thats why we signed Azaz. I also think the fee for Hackney will be far greater meaning he basically HAS to go when the right figure comes in.

That's true, he's not the finished article, far from it.

I wonder how the extra millions are triggered?
an x appearance bonus is usual. Like 30 then 50 games, would mean he is a 'proven' prem squad player and then a proven prem player. I would suspect England cap, and then maybe Villa qualifying for champs league might be part of it. That might be tenuous in terms of Rogers involvement, but would mean Villa have more income and therefore would offset the cost of Rogers until they achieve Champs League.

I agree - it all seems odd. I guess £10m isn't a lot these days for prem teams to take a gamble like this. Maybe they want to replace a home grown player, I was reading the other day that Kortney Hause may be on the way out, so it could be that he'll make up the numbers in that respect with the prospect of developing his game to play at the highest level.

Yeah I think Hackney will be £20m+

Could be a massive summer for us, as we could potentially have the funds to buy 3 or 4 £5m+ players. One of our biggest windows since the parachute payment years

He will, there will be a big decision in the summer because we will receive offers, but I think he's got another 18 months before he goes. If we do intend to sell in the summer, then I'd consider signing Ardon Jasheri now get him embedded and then sell Hayden for 25+ in the summer knowing that Jasheri is acclimatised to the champ.

City are getting 25%, I'm **** at maths but that's £2.5 mill right??
I think it's 20% and these are usually on profit. So we paid 1.5m this is an 8.5m profit. So we pay Man City 1.7m and receive the other 8.3m ourselves.

It's worth understanding that Rogers may have had some performance related payments that would mean the 1.5m we purchased him for would have increased soon. If we had to pay 500k for 40 appearances and 500k for 10 goals (all comps), then maybe we would be paying that out before the season finished.

Your reply makes no sense. Blackburn are on a bad run so their 19 year old CM must automatically be worth less money?
Villa are higher in the league than Crystal Palace so they should be paying more money for Rogers than Palace are for Wharton? - It doesn't work like that.

You've got rose-tinted glasses on - yes, Rogers fired us to a cup semi-final - but every team he scored and assisted against was at least one league below us.

I like Rogers - he's a great player - wish he stayed - but he's not comparable to Wharton (who is a much better player, and a lower risk signing for a PL team).

They’ve probably watched him play a little bit more than you (or me)
This is it with a lot of conversations about the championship/players.

I have watched every single minute of Morgan Rogers in a Boro shirt I think. I have seen a couple of highlights of then Blackburn kid. How could I possibly compare? Even if I'd watched 6 Blackburn matches in full, it would be a fraction of how much I've seen Rogers this season.

Does anyone watch loads and loads of other teams in the Championship, for a full 90 minutes? I watch any match that is on tbh, but its still nowhere near how much I watch Boro.
