Deal accepted for Morgan Rogers.

I think everyone needs to chill their beans, players come, players go. Every player has his price. I really like Roger’s it’s a shame he’s gone, but the compensation is above his current consistency level and we have a massive book of players that we want to invest in.

If any of those players can be brought in, they will be. We have by championship standards a bit of a war chest. We can probably invest in 2 or 3 highly talented young players of a similar standing. If we choose. Maybe one now and two in the summer.

This is how it needs to be, sell to improve, and it’ll happen again until our squad is so strong that it can’t fail to be promoted.

We got a better deal than when we sold Tav. Tav was a well established Championship player deemed a better than average Championship player by most analysts.

There is no guarantee we would get a better offer in the Summer for Rogers. Remember Rogers has started very few league games for us and certainly was not guaranteed a starting place if all our attacking players were fit. Rogers has had a good last 7 weeks, but I would not put Rogers in the same category as Aaron Ramsey.

its 100% true, this board was awash with people moaning about how crap he was. Same as with Engel and VDB.

Some folks have selective memories, or they just love misery.
Was talking about myself. He clearly was talented and needed time to settle. Clearly technically good with a footballing brain. Regards you lot moaning about him, schteve McLaren was right. 😉

I think a lot of the people now saying, "he's not even a guaranteed starter", "he's only been good for the last few weeks", "I can't understand why Villa are buying him" yada, yada, yada...are probably the same people who insisted the recruitment team had made a monumental blunder and he was "league one at best".
Some people hate being wrong.

You'll always get that ..
Most in the middle 1/3rd see both sides of the discussion.
There's equally enough people on here think that we should keep every player ever until we get top dollar every time .
And have no pragmatism, either for the club as an actual business ( that needs paying for under FFP ) or the fact we were horrific the 1/3rd of the season

Tav was out of contract though

Huge difference
JB - wasn't 12 months left on his contract?

OK if he was not willing the renew it would have knocked some value, but we still got £10.3m for Akpom with only 12 months left. We are actually getting a better deal for Rogers up to £16m than Chuba Akpom. up to £12m. On balance I am happy to take the Rogers deal. As said before I would have negotiated loan back for this season if possible.

Yes had 1 year left but had said he wasn’t signing another so he was all but out of contract any longer we’d have got nothing.

Losing this lad makes me sad. Was really coming good in terms of performance and importance to the team. Replacing him will be very difficult. I also wonder about effect on likes of Azaz who obviously was friends with him. Hope it doesn’t cloud him too long. And I do feel the fee doesn’t justify the sale. We need a good win against Sunderland to quickly wipe away the disappointment and another face up front to focus attention on.
Get beat by Sunderland and natives could get restless and we may as well write this season off

hmmmm money talks and he will be a miss , No way near the optimum of his game but the signs were very encoraging . Boyhood Villa fan and in his home turf ,,, dream made in heaven for him , Good Luck morgan

If we win on Sunday we could easily be 2-3 points off play-offs at most. If the other extreme happened, it would feel odd to write the season off entirely with 17 matches left to play.

I know he was a decent player but 2 league goals playing number ten is hardly 'irreplaceable'.

Never knew he was a Villa fan, so even more understandable that he wants to go I suppose.

His birth place is Halesowen and he was in the WBA academy, so I expect he considers the Birmingham area home. To me this shouldn't be a major factor in selling him. The major factor is are we getting a good price and can we get a similar or better replacement for less than his fee.

Whether this is a good decision or not will rest on

1). How we spend the proceeds.
2). How well Rogers performs.
3). What clauses we have in place.

The issue will be that if he performs well enough that Villa have to fulfill all the clauses so that we receive the full fee, people will say "I told you so, now he's worth 40m!" and the argument will continue for eternity.

While I'm sure the club has been very shrewd with these dealings the whole thing smacks of a big problem that is diminishing football.

The whole thing is propped up by dodgy money and crooked agents and talented young lads like Rogers get sucked into it chasing dreams and end up sitting on a bench or back out on loan.

But yeah, good luck to the lad, it's not his fault the game is rigged he's just playing it the best way he can and hopefully it works out for him

It's a bit demoralising. What is the point of signing promising players if they just get snapped up before they can push your team onwards? Yes it brings money in but that isn't why I watch football. I do it for sporting glory, not to get a bonk on when the yearly accounts are published like many on here seem to.
