Derby meltdown?

Our 1986 squad contained players who would, between them, go on to win 5 Premier League winners medals, 3 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, a European Cup Winners Cup and 55 international caps (26 for England; 29 for Republic of Ireland).

I think they had a bit more about them than Brucie simply creating some sort of siege mentality! (And a lot more about them than Derby’s current squad).
Was born in 84 so obvs can’t remember the team. Who are the players?

I’m guessing something along the lines of Pallister for 4 prems, Ripley for 1.

Sure Pallister will have won at least one of the FA Cups and League Cups, possibly the ECWC?

Yeah, that's about right. Cooper played for England too. Mogga played for England B. Bernie for Eire. Think Hamilton may have been called into the Scotland squad.

Did Cooper win league cup with us?

Prem titles - Pallister 4, Ripley 1.
FA Cup - Pallister 3,
League Cups - Pallister - 1, Colin Cooper 1
ECWC Pallister - 1.

Not sure who won the last league cup.

Yeah it was, I forgot to add that one one.

Still one league cup missing.

Billy Horner said 4 league cups.

Brian Laws won 2 league cups with Forest.

Obviously, the honours are concentrated in a small group of players. Still it’s quite an impressive haul from a squad in the third tier of English football whose club has just come out of liquidation.

Looks like Derby need "Fans money..."

Wayne Rooney has sent a plea to Derby County fans ahead of the season opener against Huddersfield Town today.

They kick off their Championship campaign at Pride Park (3pm) and supporters will be back in the stadium for the first time for a competitive fixture since March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rooney is looking forward to the game.

"Personally. I cant wait, I'm excited," he said.

"My first real game as a manager with fans at Pride Park. We had the pre-season games but I think Saturday will be a lot different.

"There is a real excitement among the players. A lot of players who will be on the bench have never played in front of a crowd before, really. They are all excited, you can see it in their eyes, hear it in the talk among them. We are ready."

Rooney took little time to respond to a question of whether or not Derby are underdogs going into the game due to the transfer embargo that has hampered his plans to
strengthen the squad.

"We're not underdogs, we've got good players. I'm fully expecting go into this game and get three points," he said.

"Other people can have their opinions on whether this team is good enough or this squad is good enough. Of course, and I keep saying it, we do need more players but my starting 11 I put out I'm fully expecting to get three points."

Does Rooney have a message for the fans?

"My message is, personally I am fully committed to this football club, whether we sign players or not, I am fully committed to helping this football club move forward," he said.

"My coaches are right behind me and fully committed, and the players from the senior players to the younger players, they need the support of the fans.

"The players are giving everything every single day to help this club be successful. For the fans, please get behind these players because they need you."
