Djed Spence tweet…

I know it’s not directed towards us , but he needs to be careful .

The club essentially still holds all the cards on him. If I remember correctly , he’s on a long contract with us , if we don’t sell him for a good price and he starts acting like a tosser then we can keep him in the reserves for a long time . Essentially stealing some of his prime years from him.

Really shouldn’t be ******* off the club you’re essentially still employed to

Little djed. Released by Fulham for threatening people with gangs.

Little djed. Said he is levels above any player in our squad and then had the balls to call out crooks for being racist for not passing to him in training then decided our staff were too because he was dropped.

First time I've seen this. although no surprise. I guess he felt in exile on Teesside, whereas Nottingham was much nearer to London but at the same time just far enough away from 'bad company'.
Clubs showing interest will know all about this.

Given he's one of the saleable assets we have, and dont want to keep, then I'd be amazed if we were prepared to effectively cut off our nose to spite our face, by doing what you've described.

We will if we don’t get a fair price for him.

If clubs know he doesn’t want to be here then they will feel they can get a better price for him as he will try and force the move .

It’s important to know we’re still in control of this. He’s not going anywhere unless we get good money for him. As far as I’m aware , he’s not on massive wages here either

Little djed will never learn. He will not want to play for forest when spurs etc are in for him. Watch what he does this summer.

And btw wilder did want him back in jan. There was a vote amongst the players as to whether they thought it was a good idea. Guess what. Not one of them said they wanted him back.

Tell you what, little djed is a little phalus

Where the fVck did you get that so called info from. Can you ever believe that a manager as strong willed as Wilder would have a vote as to whether a player stays or goes. Utter bull.

And as for the photo its not the first and wont be the last people have posted things on Twitter in the heat of the moment. Warnock obviously takes it in good heart while claiming a bit of glory for Spences success. I just do not understand the hate that gets posted on here against Spence. I suppose I should expect it though as its happened before with for example Downing.

I wish him well and I wish he had been playing in the Play off final for us but we saw fit to weaken our team and strengthen an oponent for no extra cost. Good luck where ever you are next season Djed.

I'm not saying any of this is true or untrue, but I find it hard to believe that not one of them said they wanted him back given that the likes of Bamba, Bola, Dijksteel and Jones regularly comment on his Instagram, praising him, like this:

He is clearly a n0bhead.
He had many chances at the Boro and showed only flashes. It seems his form this season stems from his eagerness to prove warnock wrong but that begs the question of why he didnt apply himself as hard before this?
Get shot of him. Whatever happens I dont think he has the right attitude to succeed and I think he will end up back where he started.

Im hoping we never agreed some daft fee (say £5m) with forest to buy him at the end of his loan.. His value has rocketed since he went there.

What the fans think is a fair price, and what the club think is a fair price are probably two very different things though.

I find it very interesting how the official MFC twitter account haven't even sent out their congratulations to Djed Spence.

Maybe they've forgot?

Maybe they've been told not to?

Normally see other clubs do it with their ex players/loans etc.

Yeah, but the whole team disliking him is a different kettle of fish - Sheringham and Cole disliked each other, they weren't disliked by the rest of the Utd team.
Not quite true if you have read Roy Keane’s autobiography you will know Teddy Sherringham was hated by more players then Andy Cole, but I take your point if he has alienated the whole team you would have to take their opinion into account if you wanted good team spirit.👍

I think we probably would have known about that already. I imagine we sent him to Forest on loan instead of selling him because we realised a good season somewhere could inflate his price massively, last summer it was at rock bottom so we had nothing to lose really.

Its worth reposting this article.
Particularly important is what Chris Wilder has to say about him being "our player" and "our asset".

Chris Wilder explains Middlesbrough's decision to let Djed Spence stay on loan at Nottingham Forest

Chris Wilder has explained the numerous factors that came into play as Middlesbrough decided to let Djed Spence stay out on loan at Nottingham Forest until the end of the season.

Given Spence's exceptional form during his spell at Nottingham Forest, Boro had been considering a recall for the wing-back this month, with a break clause in the agreement allowing them to do so.

Indeed, the day before being officially announced as Boro boss, Wilder was even at the City Ground watching Spence in action for Steve Cooper's Forest side.

And while leaving him at Forest means potentially strengthening a play-off rival, Wilder revealed that the incredible form of December's Championship player of the month Isaiah Jones and the fact that Spence made clear he wanted to stay in the Midlands, were the determining factors in Boro's decision.

And having re-negotiated the initial loan deal to financially benefit Boro, the decision was ultimately taken to grant Spence his wish.

Wilder told BBC Radio Tees: “He’s (Spence) our player, and it’s always been a complex situation. I understand more than anybody that he’s playing well, and we’re delighted that he’s playing well because he’s our player and our asset as well.

“We always look from a football point of view when these boys are playing well, and Djed’s done that. From our point of view, that increases his value as well and certainly Djed has done that.

“I think we all understand that he might not be a player I would have allowed to go out. I think that’s understandable in terms of how we play and what his attributes are.

“I’ve watched him, and he’s doing well and he’s happy. He wants to stay there for the second half of the season. I know that’s not the be-all and end-all, and we have to make the decision that fits right by us.

“We’ve made the decision that Djed stays out there until the end of the season. Financially, we had the ability to improve the contract financially that benefited us, that allows us to maybe invest elsewhere and give us that opportunity to improve the standard of player we’re trying to get in to this football club by allowing Djed to go out.

“I think the biggest thing is the young man that’s playing in that position at the moment [Isaiah Jones]. I don’t want to stunt his progression because he’s been outstanding. Bringing a player back who has played football and wants to play first-team football, as they all do, I’ve got to weigh up a lot of things.

“I know it’s early days, but I’d like to think the supporters of Middlesbrough will trust in the decisions we make for the benefit of the football club – short, medium and long term.

“It was a difficult and complex one, but we’ve made the decision to leave Djed out. We feel that was the right decision on quite a lot of fronts.

“The biggest one for me is Jonah and his progression and how he’s played. We do have cover in that position too - there are two or three who can comfortably play in that position as well."

While Spence's return would have no doubt offered better competition for the team, Wilder feels comfortable in the options he has to cover should Jones need to come out of the side for any reason.

And with Spence making his position on a Teesside return clear, Wilder had to consider the impact it might have on his own dressing room too.

He continued: “Djed wanted to stay at Nottingham Forest so I’ve got to think about the chemistry and the harmony of the changing room as well. Do I want an unhappy player here?

“And he would be. He’s made that perfectly clear to me that he wants to stay there. I hope I’m not chucking him under the bus. I understand his position. It’s going well for him and he wants to continue that.

“The spirit of the group is important to me and I don’t want players who don’t want to be here and would rather be somewhere else.

“I’d like to think the fans will trust me and the decisions I make for the football club.”
