Do you talk to your dog?

Do you think a dog would understand a foreign dog? As an example, would my dog understand what a Spanish dog's bark or grunt actually meant? Would a Greek dog know what a Peruvian dog was yapping about?

I’ve started talking to animals when out hiking. Just an amiable ‘hi sheep’, ‘afternoon cows’ sort of thing.
Last week though, passing a group of Highland cattle, I said ‘och aye, the moo, och aye, the moo!’ I thought I was so amusing. The cows didn’t.

I think there was research a couple of years that thought dogs from different areas had 'a dialect' - possibly from the tones of their owners
So a dog on Tesside has a slightly different 'dialect' in their bark to one in say London

My Westie is lazy and a dog of few words, can’t even be arsed to bark when someone rings the bell. I talk to him all the time and thank him regularly for keeping me sane and active through the pandemic. Gonna stick him on eBay next week as I have to go back to work. Chance to try and recoup some of the money!!!

I don’t have one but have you got your ones phone number because I’m sick of watching this sh1t ;-)

To reinforce my earlier post, Indy is looking at me like I'm stupid for watching this. She doesn't suffer fools gladly so I'm not sure a call from another Boro fan will be well received. It certainly won't boost your own well-being 20210421_185156.jpg

I always wondered if the cat my wife had and brought with her when she moved here had an American meow and if it changed in the 6 years she lived with us here. Miss that cat, she was a legend, the 2 we have now though are class too though

Mine can speak English. I asked it, “What’s that stuff that grows on trees?” And he replied

“Bark!”

I thought that might be a fluke so I asked him, “and what is the surface of bark like?” And he said,

“Ruff!”

Smart dog, that.

Yep, plus the 3 cats, 2 turkeys, 2 pigs, 8 sheep and 5 hens. Goodness knows what they think.

What's the point of having a dog if you don't talk to him or her? I talk to mine all the time. He's a really good listener. I used to sing to my Bearded Collie too back in the day. He seemed to really like that. He was really in to his music. RIP Bobby. You were a good friend and companion and I really miss you.

I have had another heated row with my tortoise. Didn’t do the washing up last night despite being on the rota to do so. Took umbrage at the tortoise shell colouring of the new kitten.

Meanwhile the older cat, the Persian who is obsessed with Greek Philosphy, has thrown his toys out of the pram when I dared suggest the Sophists were wrong and that men weren’t the measure of everything.
