Hey! Not here looking for any sarcastic comments or judging just advice and general know how from fellow dog owners.
So basically, I have a 1 and a half year old Lurcher who is an energetic pup and loves everyone and every animal.
However he knows that when we're out all he has to do is manoeuvre himself a certain way and the collar will slip right off his neck. I've owned 3 Seperate collars now and they've all been terrible even when as tight as they can be and I've asked at a local pet shop and they looked at me like I was stupid.
I'm the kind of owner who believes dogs should be on the lead and it's even more the case when your dog is prominently a greyhound He is absolutely rapid and it's almost psyically impossible to catch him. He's got zero recall which is another reason I keep him on the lead.
He's got off the lead a couple of times in the last few weeks and not only is it embarrassing that he's sprinting round and I can't catch him, there's the odd awful person around. I've been threatened by. a **** down my end who he ran along side saying 'if you don't get him it's not your dog that'll get it, it's you' and awful comments off other people who only like to pass judgment on your when they're miles away.
It's taken some extremely lovely people who let their dogs off with him and then help with the general catching at the end I'm also worried he jumps up at a kid (he loves kids).
So anybody who's ever had this kind of dog, can I seek some advice. Is there a certain collar you could recommend or would it be better to put him on a harness?
It's knocking my confidence in walking him, and he's not getting anywhere near as much time out as he should be.
Thanks in advance.
