Eddie Howe agrees 2.5 year deal to manage the Geordies

I think the first crop of players coming in might be from out of favour players, Winks and Dele Alli for instance have already been mentioned. Not the type of player that they need for me, all the same.

When the big money first came in at the other clubs they didn't immediately sign players from Barcelona etc but they signed players to make the transition.

Howe has a hell of a job on his hands to keep them up and will need a few, maybe short term signings to crawl over the line. He needs to make them more solid to start with.
A bit like the Sunderland players of old? The Jack Rodwells, The Adam Johnsons etc?

When Chelsea and Man City were bought out they were buying the likes of Robinho, Crespo, Makalele, Drogba and Carvalho. These are the sorts of players the Geordies appear to think they should be buying.

Obviously any side would suffer from the loss of their two best players. It might cost them the odd point here and there.
The odd point here and there? Really?

Losing your two best players would have a huge impact on most teams, Liverpool lost Van Dijk last year, admittedly as well as Matip and Gomez for significant parts of the season, and they finished the season on 69 points. The year before the finished on 99 points. 30 points different. And that was only one of their best players. Even half that amount (15 points obviously) could be the difference between a comfortable mid table finish and relegation.

But what you're saying is that, with those two players they should finish comfortably mid-table, but without them they could easily be in a relegation battle.
How can you tell me what I am saying? For clarification, if you read the very post that you’ve replied to I’ve said I think the biggest impact on a teams success is the manager. So to reiterate my point, I think the biggest factor in whether Newcastle stay up or go down will be Eddie Howe. But if Wilson and St Max stay fit or miss large parts of the season will make his job a lot easier or harder respectively.

By definition, that means they're over-reliant on those two players. Therefore they don't have a "decent squad", as the rest of them are relegation material.
I wouldn’t say the rest of the team are relegation material at all. To give you a detailed breakdown of my opinion I’d group the standard of the squad like this.

Champions league standard: St Max

Europa league standard: Wilson & Willock.

Mid table: Dubravka, Lacelles, Hendrick, Almiron, maybe Sean Longstaff.

Therefore in my option they have 7/8 mid table and above standard players.

Hopefully you’re now clear on my opinion, feel free to voice your own as well as trying to pick apart mine 👍

Two players? They'll struggle to stay up if Callum Wilson is out.

Are they spending much cash if they're opting for Eddie Howe? If they had real money to spend surely they'd have attracted a better manager. Rafa Benitez was willing to go to Newcastle (and China!) and he's not a bad manager. I wonder if Newcastle are the reason Conte is at Spurs. Forced Levy to spend real money rather than lose out.
Who knows? Depends who Howe gets in January.

If he makes a couple of “Jordan Ibe / Dominic Solanke” esq signings then they will really hope Wilson stays fit.

If he makes a couple of shrewd signings like he did with Aaron Ramsdale, Tyrone Mings or Nathan Ake then they might not be so dependant on Wilson staying fit.

I would think they probably are prepared to support Howe in January, otherwise what really was the point in getting rid of Bruce at the cost of millions?

City and Chelsea were adding to pretty good existing squads though weren’t they, from memory both top 7 teams before their takeovers.

This Newcastle team is rank and they’re six points off safety.

It’s more like QPR being mega-rich, at the minute no-one is going to go there for football reasons so what’s so funny is that being so cashed-up is actually going to attract exactly the kind of player they don’t need i.e. pure mercenaries.

As ever, it’s the delusion that will ruin it for them. They’ve already had their first reality check, going from Zidane / Conte / Ten Haag / Emery to Eddie Howe. It will be the same on the pitch, the disconnect between the players the fans and owners think they can get (Mbappe, Hazard, Coutinho) and the ones a struggling relegation team need.

Howe might do alright, but Newcastle fans are not known for being the most patient or grounded in reality of people and the hysteria will start quickly.

There’s also no football people in that boardroom so the delusion will run both ways. Sounds like Emery turned it down because he got major Venkys vibes of a club with big dreams but no strategy or plan.

They might stay up, but need to start winning soon. I think there are probably a couple of worse teams....definitely Norwich and Brentford are now sliding after a good start, but then for the other spot it might be between them, Watford, Villa and Leeds......it's going to be squeaky bum time at Sid James Park this season!

Far too much geordie loving going in this thread for my liking

anyway has he took it yet then or not as still nothing official.

Decent enough, yeah. Certainly better than the current Newcastle squad and Chelsea were a Champions League team too.
Newcastle fans only need to look at the Kaka to Man City failure a decade or so back to see money doesn't always get the big marquee signings you want.

They will need to overspend in January. If they don't bring some quality in they are going down.
