England fans don't deserve to ever win a tournament.

Way OTT of course, the opening post.

But its the same old same old.
80+ arrests
Fans breaking into the stadium using violence on police and stewards
Italian fans abused and attacked
Danish fans abused including children
Booing the anthems
Muggings inside Wembley
And disgusting racism

Yeah it's not just us but FFS we don't seem to get any better.

I wonder if the OP has reflected on his ill conceived views bearing in mind the avalanche of posters who have disagreed so vehemently?

Thankfully I read the whole thread and the OP's 2nd post apologising for calling ALL England fans scum.

Still don`t agree with his thoughts on that we don`t deserve to win or take part. That to me is stopping the England players achieving one of their goals in life being a football player.

I`d also like to make it clear that those responsible for the racist comments towards our players are not England fans and I don`t mean that they are from a different country.

I am Scottish as are my entire family. None of us hate the England team. Some give a bit of banter nothing more than some boro fans give Leeds or Sunderland. Unless of course you believe boro fans irrational hated if Sunderland is equally as bad.
I know probably another 5 Scots like that. I also have Scottish family who are great people. They've been shocking with their vitriol towards the England team this EUROS. I called out some of them who admitted they actually like the team, but still want them to fail. Based on what exactly I asked? It's the media. OK, so that makes all the xenophobia fine then.

They'll all be back to supporting Liverpool or Man United in August of course.

I apologised for saying England fans are scum without the caveat that of course it's not All England fans.
So you are happy for a whole nation of Football fans to never experience their team qualify, let alone win a football tournament again because of the actions of a minority of fans? Ridiculous thing to say. I went to Wembley for the Germany game, didn’t witness an ounce of trouble. A German fan help me put my flag up then asked to see a photo of it so he could tell his parents to look for it.

After the vile and disgusting racist reaction to the penalties, I hope England never even get close to winning anything. The supporters are scum and deserve nothing but the harshest punishment.
Bit of a sweeping statement that my friend, tar and brush spring to mind.

Why would Scotland want England to win?

I agree with the vast majority of that but can't accept the part of Scotland. They've pathological hatred of English sporting teams is something else. They claim they hate the football team because of the media, but hate the rugby team because of arrogance.

They seem no irony in following English clubs and all Rangers fans idolise Steven Gerrard! There's also thousands of English living in Scotland and likewise Scots in England. Their behaviour is borderline xenophobic when it comes to sport.
The vast majority of Scots don't have a "pathological hatred" of England's teams or people. To suggest so is just xenophobia. However you should understand that when Scotland plays England, Scots will support their team. The arrogance coming from all England's teams and football supporters when it comes to Scotland is incredible. A country less than a tenth of the size that beats England on a regular basis, yet is continually discounted.

They beat us on a regular basis do they, must have missed that.

I don't doubt there are some, most, like any fans, have a bit of banter and it's meant to be taken that way.

I do recall in the old days of home internationals the crap I would take as a Scottish kid in an English school after the games win or lose.

Just back from Scotland whilst Euros were on... no hatred on view but a mixture of the genuinely not bothered and "don't care about them at all" like some Sunderland fans try to be about us.

The tiny minority of mentally ill bigots or those pushing a political agenda do not represent 'England fans'.

This is the true representative of England fans...

You are right GazBoro, but the trouble is we are all tainted by their behaviour. I get quite glum about it to be honest.

The behaviour of the minority on Sunday is rightly condemned and hopefully a few get prosecuted and face up to the consequences.

This thread started off in reaction to the events captured on TV and coverage in the media. There in lies to problem in how the human mind perceives what is a fairly rare event.

The England football team has played probably 50 games (just a guess) since losing to Iceland in 2016. During that time, there hasn't been any trouble with England fans (at least not big enough to capture the headlines). There's probably a few on this board who have been to games both home and away who could confirm no issues at all. In those 50 games, there could have been close to 1 million fans in attendance. Sunday saw probably 500 people act like hooligans.

A rare event (first time in at least 5 years and probably even more) carried out by a tiny fraction of fans (over the period) then comes to dominate and leads to people starting threads like this. It also gives the impression that it's all England fans.

I agree Nero, it is just that regardless of what we know to be the case, the perception from afar is that we are unable to behave ourselves. The press have a lot to answer for - quoting Jonathon Liew in the Grauniad:
This time, there were a few isolated incidents: the vandalism of a Marcus Rashford mural in Withington, the reprehensible look-at-me racist abuse of England’s black players on Instagram. Equally predictably, these acts were instantly distended and fetishised by a media desperate for them to happen: desperate to affix a simple visual motif to England’s chagrin, to generate enough shock and outrage to fill Tuesday’s newspapers.

You’d think other countries have no racist or violent fans the way the op goes on.

We’re not unique, some places just don’t publicise it as much, and with English fans it’s just much more newsworthy. We need to address it and stamp it out of course, but don’t pretend we’re some kind of outlier in world football.
