England or Boro?

I often see it as a defence mechanism really if we get knocked out . Fair enough if people don’t genuinely care, but to me it’s easy to say “well I didn’t care anyway “ for some people when we go out so it seems it’s easier to cope
Nice bit of 'cod psychology' and you are right sometimes people do say stuff like that. But I will genuinely not be upset if England lose to France although I'm fully behind them and want to see them win. I can't even recall being affected when they lost to Italy in the Euro final, mild disappointment at getting so close and just falling short. That's why watching England at major tournaments is a nice indulgence for me, all the highs of winning but none of the lows when we lose. (y)
If England were to win the WC I'd be over the moon, of course, but I wouldn't blub like a baby like I did at Cardiff. The Boro just matter more. Anyhow I've sat and watched England win the World Cup live so its all a bit 'last year' .............. well 'last century'.🧓:)

Edit: The way some on here were getting upset about Henderson being in the team goodness knows what they would have made of Nobby Stiles. Mind you Nobby would have sharp sorted Mbappe out. ;)

Boro means that little bit more to me but within the context of it being a quarter-final game vs France I'd have to say England.

If Boro were playing in an FA cup quarter-final I'd say Boro though.

Theres some queer old opinions on here I think.

Imagine asking someone who was a big football fan in the 60s, "what was it like to watch England win the world cup?"

"I didn't bother watching that nonsense, my team had an important mid table league game against Luton Town".

You'd think they were a bloody nut job.

Not that I'm saying England are going to win it, but the impression I get from some of the grinches on here is even if England did get to the final, they'd turn their noses up at it, like a Frenchman who's been given a pot noodle.😜

Yes they would be a nut job given there were no league games played on July 30th 1966.

Boro every time. Didn’t have to think about it.

Under previous regimes it would always be boro before England but I feel more connected to this England team under Southgate. I'm definitely more excited for the England game this weekend and would 100% take England win in the circumstances.

It might be different if boro had genuine chance of promotion this season but that all seems very unlikely.

I want England to win.
But… I’d rather Boro win their next game than England win the World Cup. Consider myself English but from the Peoples Republic of Teesside first and foremost.
It’s like a choice between an interest and a religion.

To paraphrase a famous banner...

Boro, Teesside, North East Region, England, Madrid. In that order. (In reality there'd also be a lot of other clubs before Madrid too!)

I'm still supporting England and want them to win, but as others have said it just doesn't hurt as much when England lose. It's like a hangover in your 20's as opposed to one in your 40's!
