England v USA

If only you typed those words instead of the ones you did then it wouldn't of been pathetic.

Instead you chose pathetic.

Bellingham wasn't poor today because of a "jizzfest", he was completely outnumbered and isolated with no options around him.

Well I’m very sorry my words offended you, but you’ve just agreed with me that he was poor today…

My point was the media tend to heap pressure on your talents by hyping them up beyond their means.

My point is only that I don't think foden is a sticking plaster that cures all of our ills. Just as Bellingham isn't. Just as grealish isn't. Bellingham was poor today. The US at times had acres of space in midfield. Where was he? It was a poor team performance. And as I said I would have brought foden on myself.

Jesus Christ, an England fan with a dose of realism. Careful mate, they’ll start sending you booing voice notes.

It does definitely seem like England fans get fixated on specific players being the magic fix for our problems.

When they don't solve it, we move on to the next one.

It was Grealish at the Euros.

We should have performed better tonight, and Southgate should have done better with substitutes, but it's far from the end of the world after that result.

Ok for those calling people criticising answer me this

Will Spain start without pedri and gavi in their next game ???

Of course not.

Would you say Brazil are the favourites? Most of their players play for middling teams in Europe now. I can’t look past Spain.

That’s entirely my point. Why are this team expected to win? When nothing in the past 56 years has suggested they are?
Why? Because most observers and fans are excited by the talent that we have. But yes I think Brazil are rightful favourites. Forget which teams they play for the sum is more important than the parts.

Our main issue tonight, at least in my eyes, was that the USA were looking too threatening going forwards, I'm not sure Foden playing over Mount fixes that.

No he isn't, but you never know unless you try and Southgate doesn't try which leaves him open to the same criticisms whenever we are struggling.

To win tournaments you need to be brave and Southgate just isn't, which is something he said himself after the Croatia and Italy games is a flaw but has done nothing to show he's learned.

So unless we blow teams away we will struggle against the top teams.

Some would argue the group stages are all about getting through them and to a large degree that is true, but today there was an opportunity for Southgate to use the attacking talent we have on the bench to win a game, a opportunity we missed.

Who’s excited? The English media? They though Jack Wilshere was the next coming.

EXACTLY MY POINT.

The sum is more important than it’s parts. An this team has took you to a semi final and a final.

Ripping up the playbook and booing them for a game they didn’t have to win is absolute madness.

I suppose when Gareth goes we will be smashing world cups and euros out for fun according to everyone.

For all the potential in the squad we are so unbalanced it’s unreal.

Media, the fans, pundits all put England as 4th favourites and many on here were suggesting that apart from France and Spain there was nothing really to fear.

Anyway the point you seem to be making is that England shouldn't be expected to win so lets not hold them to the standards we expect from Brazil and France. And I say if we want to win the. WC we have to change this mentality

Really frustrating game to watch. They pressed us well and we didn't have an answer for it. Bellingham in particular struggled when pressed which was disappointing, although I'm sure he will play better vs Wales.

It might be a controversial thing to say but I thought it was selfish of Kane to announce himself as fit for the game, and cowardly of Southgate not to rest him or take him off.

He clearly hasn't recovered from the knock he took to the ankle and was woeful tonight. Having the pace of Rashford or Wilson running in behind their defence from the start would have meant we would have been able to actually cause them some problems.

Who's said it's the end of the world? Mount contributed very little in the last 20 minutes, Foden couldn't have done any worse and might just have had the ability to turn 1 point into 3.

I don't agree at all. The attacking teams usually get knocked out. How often have we seen a team look amazing and then get knocked out in the quarters. Even the likes of Spain played conservative football, holding the ball and winning 1 nil.

Here's some analysis.

And take a look at the group table. We are top and have a goal difference of plus five.

That’s exactly my point. I don’t get the expectations from England fans when history would suggest they’ve never been a force.

Read the comments on social media, a lot of people throwing in the towel and saying that this is proof that the is basically tournament over for us, on the back of a result that all but guarantees that we qualify for the knockouts.

Should we have played better? Absolutely.
Did Southgate make some questionable substitutes? Sure.

But we're in a better position now than we were before kick-off.

It's not about being an attacking team, it's about making changes that turn the tide of a game. Attacking doesn't always mean scoring goals, it also means keeping the ball away from your own goal.

Such changes versus Croatia and Italy might have turned the game enough to prevent the inevitable goals we conceded in those games.
