Experimental Managers

Will Gibson have finally learned his lesson and realise we cannot afford to experiment anymore?

Depends what you mean by experiment? Take a chance and give amanager their first management job? It worked out well for Robson, McClaren & Karanka. What he needs to do is pick the right person at the right time? Southgate was a player that you expected to go on to management, he's clever and he speaks well but the job came far too soon for him. He needed time working alongside someone experienced first like McClaren and Karanka had. Woodgate never gave anyone the impression that he would make a good manager and he had only worked alongside Pulis who is hardly comparable to Ferguson or Mourinho. I wouldn't be against a rookie manager again in the future but I want someone with a bit about them, some intelligence and some working alongside/mentoring from a top manager.

I don't think they were really experiments Jonny, they were appointments that made sense, slight gambles, but calculated.
Woodgate was a massive gamble, as was Southgate to a lesser extent

Well said Mike

If the chemistry is right between the manager & club then it will be a success, it doesn't matter how experienced that manager is if it's wrong from the start it won't improve, my opinion anyway

It's picking the 'right' manager at the right time! No more in house appointments please. I'd like to see a Dutch or German coach given a chance.
