Fantastic to see parking charges tripled for SUVs

I noticed though that it only impacts visitors to Paris and not residents of Paris. I think it is a bit of a cop out with them passing the book to someone else.

Taken from The Connexion - The vehicles in the firing line are those characterised as SUVs (sport utility vehicles) and 4x4s. They are typically characterised as weighing more than 1.6 tonnes (or two tonnes for electric vehicles).

Under the new rules, visitor vehicles that fit into this category - whether combustion, electric, or hybrid - will have to pay €18 per hour in the central arrondissements, and €12 for the surrounding arrondissements.

The parking fees will not apply to Paris residents, nor shopkeepers or other central workers, taxi drivers in dedicated taxi ranks, health professionals, or disabled people.
[Update, February 6, 2024: It has since been confirmed that the fees will apply to Paris residents if they park anywhere other than their dedicated 'residential' car parking space outside their home.]

The Paris Mairie has said that the fees will apply to “around 10% of vehicles” in Paris, and could bring in an extra €35 million to the city’s coffers.

Surely this is discrimination against foreigners and non-Parisians.
I would have thought it was more logical to encourage people who live in cities not to buy SUVs.

I've just read that again and I see they've updated it from the original text to include Parisians if they park their car anywhere other than outside their dedicated parking place at home.

Chelsea tractors’ are hilarious, you see them everywhere and are just a status symbol for so many people who don’t need them but need to keep up with them dam joneses….

I hate them but I'm thinking of getting one in the hope that they'll cope with the potholes. I've had 2 punctures on cars in the last 2 years both caused by hitting potholes.

Should do the job and you can plough a field or two with your new tractor 🤣👍
I suspect it might be flawed logic. Either the larger wheel diameter will pass smoothly over the pothole or the extra tonne of weight will knacker the suspension and double the size of the hole.

your 50% less likely to die if you drive 4x4's in car accidents
you kill and maim others tho - not that it will bother SUV drivers -

The logistic regression models show that SUVs are 16% more likely to cause incapacitating injuries and 36% more likely to kill pedestrians than smaller cars.

That shouldn't be used as a criteria though finny as ev's are more likely to maim or kill as they are heavier and quieter than there petrol counter parts.

I have a Yaris cross .
Classed as a small SUV.
It's not a big car .
It's not 4×4 .
It's hybrid .
Why am I the devil incarnate ?
You're not. It only applies to vehicles over 1.6 tonnes if they are IC and 2 tonnes if they are EVs.
Edit: Some people driving large saloon cars might be in for a shock, it's being framed as SUVs but it applies to any large car exceeding those weights as I read it.

Happened to us - eventually a snapped suspension arm and a £600+ repair bill 😬😬

To be fair I did that in an Asda car park 20 years ago in a vectra. It doesn't neccesarily depend on the weight of the car.

Also it was christmas eve and I needed the car on the 27th of december so had to pay a premium on boxing day to get it fixed.
