FAO Rob@fmttm, issues with bank cards declining.

I am season ticket holder and I tried to buy a ticket with a Lloyds bank card, money in account, same with Halifax bank. All transactions were declined.

Same issue with my brother who got his daughter to use a virgin money bank account.

When it happened to me, I called my bank who advised that Middlesbrough football club are unaware of a new security measure that is stopping online purchases.

What several people are worried is imagine if you are trying to buy a play off or cup ticket again in high demand and you can’t buy them.

Can you make representations to the club to see if the club can speak to Lloyds bank, NatWest, Halifax to advise of the issue, how to rectify the problem.

Loads of posts of people with this problem, perhaps people can just mention the number of attempts trying to buy a ticket and which bank you had a problem with.

Something that needs to be brought to the top table.

Thanking you in advance, redlips x

Didn’t have a problem with my Mastercard, so not sure it’s card type centric.

My experience of working with e-commerce is that using a billing address that is different to the card holder’s account address is a very common reason behind payment failures.

I'm also not convinced it's an issue with specific card types as the card that worked for me against Spurs failed tonight. I suspect it is an issue with the website/interface going to pot when there is high demand. Which is why I'm worried about play-offs if we get there as it becomes a lottery who gets tickets.

No all registered to the same house and still issues.

NatWest, Halifax and Lloyds are part of the same banking group.

Possibly but certainly wasn't the reason for me and the others who have commented that they had the same issue this evening.

When we bought Spurs tickets it sent a code to the phone to type in to verify. When we bought Chelsea tickets it went straight through without the need of a code. Bit odd . Something is obviously wrong with card payments

New fraud checks have come into play for online orders and businesses have to implement their systems with Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) and if they don't then some payments may be declined as the bank may see it as a fraud risk.

This could be something like sending a code to your phone to prove its you making the order etc...

I made a purchase on another site about an hour after I gave up on getting Boro tickets. I also made a purchase last night. Both without any issues at all. It is a problem solely with the MFC website.

Seems likely MFC haven't sorted out Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) on their systems fully yet if other transactions are going through fine with other retailers.
