Finland school shooting - child aged 12 shoots three other children

"Children under the age of 15 are not criminally liable in Finland, so the suspect has not been remanded in custody and is instead being placed in the care of social services."

What a completely messed up world we live in :(
No matter what they have done surely a 12 year old is in a position to be rehabilitated? They need the best care Finland can offer.

RIP to the victim/s of this heinous act.

I just wonder how that feels for the families affected, especially the child who died, knowing that there will be no real consequences for the actions of the murderer.

Couple of thoughts on that -
Not sure a child of 12 killing someone will suffer ‘no real consequences’.
Quite possible he will not face criminal action tho.

That probably goes to the wider question of whether families seek some kind of criminal retribution and, if so, does it really help in the long run.

I recall reading this some time ago. Clearly not a ‘1 size fits all’ but thought provoking nonetheless

Rehabilitation should always be the main effort In any criminal case.

This is a horrible crime and there should be investigations as to why a 12 year old would do such a thing.

A lot of work needs to be done with our children for things like this never to happen again.

Around the time of the Jamie Bulger murder there was a similar case in Norway. Within weeks the boys responsible were back in education. That sounds civilised, we need education and rehabilitation above all else for young offenders.

I would bet good money the victim’s family would disagree.
Perhaps, but it's not up to them. And then again maybe they and their countrymen feel privileged to live in a land like theirs where the most effective solutions for all are sought and the hang, draw and quarter 'em crowd are dismissed.

We’ll have to respectfully agree to disagree.

Which bit? A child having access to a gun is messed up. The bit about social care isn't
