Fiorentina v West Ham - Thoughts?

I would never belittle European competition, but I do think the use of the word 'conference' in the title was ill advised as it makes it sound cheap and like a second rate competition. An alternative title could make it sound so much better.

After watching that video perhaps the 'Fat Knacker Hoolie Posturing' Trophy?
 
Fiorentina were one of many iconic Italian teams from the Gazetta Football Italia days. Those purple shirts and Gabriel Batitusta!

It’s a though one to call but I think West Ham might regret having ten days to prepare. In their favour they do have some big game players.

This is a great point to those trying to claim it’s a nothing competition. European football is better for having a third competition again.

The Cup Winners Cup was the third rated competition but a bloody good trophy to win. The Conference League is exactly the same. Teams have to earn their right to be in it and work very hard to win it.

Steau Bucharest winning the European Cup in 1986 is the only particularly notable achievement of the lot, and even then they had a very kind run to the final in that.

None of those sides would look out of place in the Conference League that people are mocking.

It was the UEFA cup and the ties reflect that. But I think if you find yourself saying “what have they won apart from the European cup”, you’re probably reaching a bit, and you’ve also forgotten that we beat Roma.

Teams get easier looking draws to many finals in many cups.
Quite why you want to belittle our reaching a UEFA Cup Final, yet big up the Conference competition is beyond reason. Better teams made the UEFA than the Europa let alone the Conference.
