First Home Game - Post Covid Restrictions

Even when lifted the virus will still be here. Just don't be irresponsible and make sure you respect others and don't spread your bugs.
What a ridiculous, condescending and silly post. When restrictions are lifted are you still getting to stay in your house? Going to stay locked down?

I'm just making sure that you're aware that it doesn't just become a free for all party. You seem to be forgetting that the virus doesn't just disappear and I'm merely reminding you of that as you seem to think all will just be normal.

Good job you, random messageboard poster, on providing this advice.

I was thinking of going out and licking some door handles before having some random strangers breath in my face but now you've spoken I'll think twice about it.

Happy to be of service but well if you were previously a door handle licker then I have separate concerns about you.

On the positive, being dragged round the shops on a Saturday afternoon will no longer happen, so that should free a few of us up to be able to head back.

I would hope for a full house for 2 reasons - firstly so Warnock can see us “ in the flesh” and secondly to send a message of appreciation to Steve Gibson.

I'm thinking we can hope for the first match of next season. I don't think it will be a full house. Experience from NZ has been that even with the lifting of restrictions people are not flocking back to pubs/gigs/restaurants/sports in the same numbers as pre-pandemic. Some will be nervous of the virus for some time, some perhaps simply out of the habit, others perhaps unable to afford it.

What happened after Spanish Flu was that a few years time afterwards there was a huge increase in social interaction, sports, parties, pubs, etc

Will be interesting to see, but I reckon for all the people that will be doubly keen as mustard to get to a game.... there will still be quite a few who have lost a bit of interest, or who are more cautious. I don't expect sell outs across the country - but will very happily be completely wrong on that!!

And thirdly to boo Spence/Saville/Britt* of course.

I disagree with the original post. I think stadiums will really struggle to attract crowds.

1. Many people, especially over 40, will be put off at been in such a crowded space that they will wait a bit longer before returning.

2. Matchday experience will be completly different. No chance people will be allowed to congregate in the concourses for at least a season. Queues won’t be allowed so if you want food or drink be prepared to miss a portion of the match. If so why would you even want to go?

3. Atmosphere. Away fans won’t be allowed in again for a significant amount of time. This will take away a big reason what creates a good atmosphere at the game.

4. Many people are now used to not paying for football. With matches on SKY at various kick-off times and things like Final Score / Soccer Saturday allowed to show goals as they go in they will find it hard to give this up and if it remains (money talks) then more reason for the casual fan not to attend.

Just my opinion but Boro will struggle to get crowds above 20,000 regularly in the Championship. Only chance of seeing a full Riverside again is if we go up.

I know it sounds morbid, but me and our dad were talking the other day about going back, and hoping all those around us are still 'there'. Mad that these fellas we've seen, sat next to, chatted to, jumped on when we've scored etc, every other week for years and years, we only know their first names and nothing else about them! There's a few old boys quite near us too.

Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces!
