Forss Injury

Slight aside to this is I don’t really like what’s happening with Coburn. When he first came through he had a real knack of being in the right place at the right time, could sniff out a chance, and was chipping in with goals. We now use him as a wall, essentially, and trying to play off him or trying to get the ball to stick to him to buy us time.

I don’t know if this is physical or not - he’s filled out quite a bit now and has a huge frame, which can be difficult to carry around at speed for 90mins, but his raw talent, what were once his strengths, seems to be sort of fading away and he’s becoming a more of a target man. And as a team that doesn’t really play with a target man, or wouldn’t if they could help it, it’s a bit of a shame to see how we’re using him.

I think we’ve made him about once chance to score in his last half a dozen appearances. He’s playing back to goal 30, 40 yards out and I don’t think that’s his strength tbh.

He’s playing with an injury. It’s impossible to use these games as a measure of his progress.

You could tell that he wasn't fit yesterday when he came on. He could hardly move. Its madness to try and go through the next 3 or 4 months like this with him. Get him on the operating table today and he might be back for the run in. He's not going to add anything the way he is now.

My overall point is that he’s become a target man in recent months and that I don’t think that’s his best role. I like him, he has a lot of potential. I’m not judging him or his ability, more how we’re using him.

If he is still carrying his injury then he should be nowhere near the team and that we didn’t sign a striker to account for this, having gone into January in need of one and with Coburn carrying an injury for several months, isn’t exactly great work from the club.

It’a not a reflection on Coburn.

Seeing Kiefer Moore bang two in from the bench for Ipswich on Saturday, I really think we missed a trick. Especially if we want to play with a target man. Not saying he would've definitely come here, but we were linked with him and would've been a great option until the end of the season.

Forss has 5 in 12 and im not sure how many starts that is . Archer got 11 in 20 . I can certainly see forss beating that and his own record from last season .
5 goals in 495 minutes
last season 10 goals in 1,065 minutes.

So 15 goals in 1,560 mins or just over 17 games worth of playing time. He's a goal machine. Keep him fit, wrap him in cotton wool, and in the summer get someone to share the goals with him

Coburns form has dipped because of fitness and injuries if he needs an operation then it should be done now and not delayed because the club didn't allocate funds for a striker in January.

Forss coming off yesterday was another example of player probably playing too many minutes on return from injury. Hackney is another who was thrown in for the cup games and must have playing in the red zone.

Same with Crooks. He's been Mr Reliable since we signed him, but this season he's struggled with injuries, and he's come back in to the squad, only to be out injured again.

Goal machine indeed!

But for me does his best work (with the goals to show it) coming onto the play.

Being the last man up top might not suit him.

Its a gamble putting him up through middle on his own.

Can't understand people saying playing Forss up top is a gamble, when we've used Greenwood and Silvera up there?

He's less of a gamble than them two surely?

He's and experienced-ish striker with appearances and goals in a couple of leagues and at international level.

He's 6 foot, good enough pace wise, only 24 so plenty of years in front of him, and obviously our best finisher.

Carrick might not have wanted to use him there, but the clubs transfer business has surely 'Forssed' his hand?

My lad spoke to Jones on Saturday and he said he's not going to be back for about 8 weeks. (Hence the link to a couple of right wingers late in the window I assume).

Maybe Carrick is not willing to put Forss up top till he has someone more disciplined than Silvera to play right wing? McGree left, Azaz or Crooks central and Greenwood right with Forss playing as the number 9 maybe is the intention going forward?

After thinking he'd had a couple of poor games, I was impressed with Greenwood's effort, work rate and tenacity on Saturday, he just can't finish reliably enough to play as a striker.
