Fry injury MFC Twitter

All 4 officials will lie and say they never saw the incident as their vision was blocked and they could not be 100% sure whilst admitting it was a nasty injury. The club will complain, the EFL will apologise in writing and hopefully by the officials not seeing it (they can’t admit they did) the player will hopefully get a retrospective ban. Blackburn need punishing somehow.
Has to get a retrospective ban, the refs excuse can only be "I did not see the contact"...he may not have seen the specific moment of contact, but he did see a player lunge in with a foot more than 6 foot high and he did see a player collapse with stud marks in his face. BUT he must be banned for violent conduct for 3 games if the ref says he didn't see it, because the action was not taken on the pitch. He should miss games against Luton, QPR and Preston which luckily will hurt Blackburn and not us.

The incident could've been cleared up if the ref, unsure at what happened at the point of contact, blocked, unsighted, whatever, had maybe paused the game for a second to talk to the linesman, who must've seen something. If not, what the hell was HE looking at. It would have been parallel to where he was standing, looking straight at it. Or the ref should've taken one look at Fry's face and realised he made a mistake and then pointed to the spot.

When you think of how the ref didn't see the double penalty against Luton, awarded the goal, then consulted with his linesman and changed his mind. Didn't take long at all.

I don’t normally get worked up about refs anymore, but that was the worst and most baffling decision I’ve seen in years. Even if you accept that the ref didn’t see the moment of impact (and the camera angles would seem to suggest that he should have done), the injury itself tells you exactly what happened and that it’s an automatic penalty and red card.

A good referee would have bought himself a little time by going to talk to his lineman. All he had to ask the linesman was whether Fry had ducked down so low to have put himself in danger, which it was obvious he hadn’t (and the ref should have seen that himself anyway).

You don’t have to have seen the exact point where the boot contacted Fry’s head. The injury provides the all the evidence you need.

Exactly?! How long would it take? How difficult would it have been to make a decision.

But, you said it yourself. A 'good' ref would have bought himself some time. This clown was anything but.

I keep hearing that the lad obviously didn't mean to do it and whilst I understand the sentiment, any player knows the clear risk of raising your foot that high.

Exactly. "He's only 18" seems to be part of the defence offered by Blackburn . Well maybe that's the problem? If he's not mature enough to know that raising your boot to head height, studs up in a crowded area is extremely dangerous, then maybe he's not mature enough to be playing at this level yet?

At the very least he needs reading the riot act by his manager. Doesn't sound like that's going to happen. A lengthy ban might drive the message home though.

I'd calmed down on the injury, but then I delved in to Twitter and saw Blackburn fans berating Warnock for "bullying" an 18 year old.
Followed by Boro fans sharing repeated clips of Fry having a foot planted in his eye.

I honestly cannot remember a worse decision in one of our matches in the past few years.
Possibly the worst decision we've had at the Riverside since... Blackburn in one of Aitor's full seasons, where they essentially picked Dimi and threw him into the net at the end of the game for a 1-1 or 1-0. I think Hignett got sacked afterwards. Blackburn seem to be one of those teams for Boro, for some reason. I blame Tony Parkes.

I've just watched it back and I'm struggling to see how it's not intentional. He doesn't really kick out, he raises his foot to try and block the header.

When I say intentional, I don't mean with regards to causing the horrific injury. I mean he intentionally uses his foot to try and block a header at head height. Dark Fry is actually off his feet at the point of contact. That's reckless at the very least.

Dark Fry ... gives him a sinister persona.... can see it stick specially with his new "coming of age" old school CH appearance.... wasnt there a chocolate bar called Dark Fry?

I stated yesterday the ref never took charge of any championship games between May 2016 and August 2019 and wondered if he had been demoted. After yesterday, he should be dropped from the EFL altogether, the assistant ref on that half should not escape questioning either.

Even after the incident the ref just stood smiling and chatting away to other players without a care in the world. Fry was sat a few feet away covered in blood but I don't think I saw the ref show him any compassion. Regardless of him getting the decision wrong, he's just not 'human' either

I see it as cowardly, as the ball swings over the usual centre back decision is to head it away. He knew that if he put his head in there was a chance of a head clash because he was out of position and would have to dive head first towards Fry, so threw his long leg at it instead, knowing that he wouldn't get hurt.

Whether he (the ref and linesman) saw the contact itself or not, they surely had to see the height of the lads boot???? Unbelievably bad from the officials

I'm another vote for it being intentional. I don't think a player going in studs up would get so much benefit of the doubt if it was a slide tackle or something at ground level.

Most obvious penalty not given since the one a few years ago when Kalas sort of picked up Martin Braithwaite and judo threw him to the floor. Geoff Eltringham ignored that one and to rub salt into the wounds he gave Fulham a soft penatly in the last minute.

Does anyone remember Mido getting sent off for us at Arsenal? Direct ball hit out wide to Mido, his eyes clearly on the ball with no player in between him and the ball. He jumped (I know) and attempted to cushion/control the ball. As he did one of Arsenal's defenders bravely stuck his head in (from behind Mido) and got Mido's boot in the face. Even though the player was not in Mido's line of sight and was stooping, Mido was sent off for dangerous play. It was similar but nowhere near as bad as Saturday's.

FFS Dael !!

You’d think he’d have had a quick shave, after all, we all want to look our best when having our photo taken.
