Gentry Day, again, sorry.

Out of interest this is the choice PNE had to vote on....
Following discussions with supporters' groups at the start of the season, the trip to Watford in March was earmarked as the best option to mark our annual tradition. However with the news that there will be disruption to train services on the date of that fixture, the club are asking supporters for their preferred game for Gentry Day 2023.

The choice of fixture has been narrowed down to four of our upcoming away matches, which are as follows:

Watford vs PNE, Saturday 4th March
Middlesbrough vs PNE, Saturday 18th March
QPR vs PNE, Friday 7th April*
Sheffield United vs PNE, Saturday 29th April

14th April we play Norwich at home..
14th April is is also the legend that was Fabio Moreira’s birthday

also it will be Emerson’s birthday on the 12th April.. can’t think over a better fixture to don the yellow and green and pump out a Brazilian carnival atmosphere.
FABIO DAY!! GET THE WIGS OUT!!

I think the idea of a celebration/rememberance thing is really good, but think it should be at home so everyone can be involved.
Personally I'd rather not do a Brazillian thing. I love Juninho and have fond memories of Emerson and Rochemback, but not so much the rest of the cast. It doesn't define who we are, just a nice short chapter.
I'd rather a celebration of who we are and where we are from, more fitting in remembering those of us who have passed.
Our travelling support makes the away thing harder to do, unless the longest away trip is always the one chosen.

What about Doriva, he made 74 appearances for the Boro.

How many ‘things’ have we got tho? A celebration thing has to be fun.. a nod back to the past and some tongue in cheek ‘just like watching Brazil’ would be cool. Funnier that we’d be in Norwich colour pretty much.. or would Norwich be in our Brazilian colours? It would be a good laugh and something the club could lend a hand with..

There have been so many Brazillians in English football now and I don't think anybody associates us with Brazil.
If it floats everyone's boat then fine, but it would do nowt much for me in all honesty.

I think an Ayresome Angels thing could be quite fitting given it is to recognise those who have passed.

As I’ve said it’s just a daft left and something easy to do.

An ‘Ayresome Angels’ thing as a tribute would be less relevant than a Brazilian style celebration.. and whilst I respect the tributes for fans who have passed. Lots of fans have passed, lots of folks lose loved ones who may not be involved with the club. It’s hard to say I don’t agree with it.. but I don’t.

Wasn’t that hard actually.

Football should be a celebration and whilst I appreciate that fans pass away and Facebook requests go up for clapping or photos to be put up on the big screen.. I don’t want a football game to turn into some sort of Hollywood Oscar’s in memorium. I don’t even think it’s in the best taste, sure the loss of a loved one is hard and you want to pay the best tribute you can.. but is it?

As much as I’d fully expect when I pass for a full stadium to don a black armband and stand for a five minutes silence going through a slideshow of my very best private family moments.. and everyone will cry, the cannons will shoot, the doves will be released and everyone will know there will never be another one like me.. I’d much rather folks just enjoyed their day.

Well I started this as an idea to acknowledge the passing of fans over the year to show some sort of respect with a simple and dignified gesture. However, it's gone to a party time atmosphere with all the bells and whistles on. I really don't what, if anything, will come of it. I will be wearing my cap at both Friday night games as my personal acknowledgement.

The Ayresome Angels were possibly the biggest, loudest group of away followers Boro have ever had.
I personally wouldn't want a memorial day, but there are layers to an Ayresome Angels thing that allow it to be raucous, colourful and yet also link for those who want it to those who have passed.

If you think the Ayresome bit is irrelevant now, then to many young fans so too is Brazil.

it’s a bit of an abstract concept tho.. ‘be more loud’ ‘be more ayresome angels’

some things translate easily and others do not. the Brazilian thing was a defining moment in our history and it still resonates with many fans today.

I mean if thins is about us doing a Preston thing.. then sure ‘Ayresome Angels’ it up everyone can wear angel wings and we can have a nonstop slideshow through the entire match of off the fans who have died, or any dogs or cats that have been run over, we can have a bugle at kick off and a Robbie Williams tribute act to finish off the day.

has this marked increase in memorials and tributes got anything to do with our recent upturn in success? I agree it does feel strange and unnatural.. but can we try it without all the deaths and misery?

Oh god.. and I don’t mean a slide show of newborn baby’s and weddings combined with some high tempo euro dance fronted by some mindless hollow platitude blasted at random intervals like a fairground warning ‘stay safe’ ‘keep your hands in the car’ and ‘enjoy your day’

Are you wearing a cap because Preston came with their bowler hats on?

I like the Ayrsome Angels idea, it links into our past regarding the remberance of family members and fellow Boro fans , more modern idea are great but we have a rich history so why not tap into it, it's a link between past and present generations.
