Graeme Souness

I love how so annoyed men are by the presence of women in and around football! It’s great.

“She’s a terrible pundit.” You hear this sort of thing said quite often. Have you ever heard Stephen Warnock or Jason Roberts or the hundreds of other terrible male pundits? Being a bad pundit isn’t exclusive to women.

What people seem to be saying is that they don’t want women anywhere near men’s football. Which just sounds a bit… well, weak. A bit pathetic. A bit precious. And if you don’t want women in men’s football, well just don’t watch it. But I have a sense that some of those moaning about ‘box ticking’ or whatever else are just been a little bit sexist but are too afraid to say women should be in the kitchen or putting the kids to bed.

The world is changing. You might have to start thinking about moderating or tweaking your language in certain situations, especially if you’re a big-name pundit on the weekend’s premier football broadcast. It’s not hard.
Bloody ell Viv have you ever read this board 😁 I mean regardless of creed, colour, gender, religion or sexuality I think I can honestly say no pundit has ever been praised on this board amd each and everyone has been described as anything from useless to f@*king useless

Like Piers Morgan suggested in his tweet this morning....

Don't remember any outrage when the terms 'womens game' or 'womens football' were referred to hundreds of times in recent weeks 🤨

I think Neville is great, and having Carragher on with him is even better.

I like Keane too, not afraid to say what he thinks, and it's even better when he's on with Richards.

The Worlds not totally gone mad...

My mate is still serving in the navy and recently they were asked if people were offended by the name 'Seamanship Branch' as it has females serving in it. Thank god they all said they couldn't care less. Go the female sailors.

I imagine the call of ' man overboard' when someone falls in will be next. Although I'd imagine the majority couldn't care less as long as rescued.

Maybe shout 'person of no specific gender overboard' just incase 😂

El Guapo nailed it for me.

I have no truck with Carney or Scott, I think they are both knowledgeable pundits. I can’t stand, in fact understand Jamie Carragher who i think is as annoying as it gets. I can’t stand Jacqui Oatleys voice as a commentator, it grates on me as does Jonathan Pearce.

Am I only ok to dislike the male ones as I identify as a man (sorry if that offends any readers, but I do have a certificate to prove it)

People are far too quick to jump at things without bothering to discuss the context of what was said and why it was used. We all say common or garden everyday language that we have grown up with as custom and practice, the norm if you will.

In some cases it might be that it offends, in other cases it might irk and in some cases people with a chip on their shoulder may want to make a mountain out of a molehill (no offence to moles intended). The media are occasionally too quick to cancel certain words, groups, behaviours for fear of loss of audience or fear of litigation. Sky seem to think it not gross misconduct to spit at a young family, but to air doubts surrounding the pandemic are a heinous crime. Freedom of speech (while to a degree limited to reasonable restriction) is allowed, Le Tiss broke no laws and was sacked, Carragher carried out an assault and was merely suspended 🤷‍♂️

I am all for men, women, different ethnic backgrounds, gender, disabilities getting roles because they deserve them, because they are the best in their field at the time. Positive discrimination such as likely happens in some cases for so called ‘quota’ reasons is offensive in my view as it is discriminatory in itself. We should all be equal and treated on our individual merits, not because I is white or someone has a tendency to wear flowery clothing and likes too listen to the communards or because they have a different complexion to Alan Shearer or enjoyed playing with Barbie or action man as a kid.

Souness was absolutely fine and lawful in his comments. I do not believe he was being disrespectful, those who wield the power though, what gives them the right to be judge and Jury? How qualified are they? Souness’s words like any of us on here are open to interpretation, but I find it amazing how quick individuals from so called minority groups are to jump on nonsense like this. It is seemingly ok for a woman to refer to men pushing and shoving each other as handbags? I recall one female commentator saying just that, what if one of the players were gay, is that ok because she is a woman?

Either stuff is lawful or it isn’t. If it isn’t then let it go or change the law.

Human beings are far too interested in wanting to be seen as taking the moral high ground that they forget their own personal flaws, we all have them and need to remember that. There are times when we need to stop being offended for the sake of it and all pangender up

I'm broadly in agreement but until we are no longer institutionally racist positive discrimination is needed.

There’s creatures on the ocean seabed that have a better understanding than gabi agbonlahor.

He's so dense light bends round him

Positive discrimination is illegal in the UK. The loophole is calling it positive action.

The positive action provisions means that it is not unlawful to recruit or promote a candidate who is of equal merit to another candidate, if the employer reasonably thinks the candidate
has a protected characteristic that is under-represented in the workforce or,
that people with that characteristic suffer a disadvantage connected to that characteristic.

However, positive action does not allow an employer to appoint a less suitable candidate just because that candidate has a protected characteristic that is under-represented or disadvantaged.

I do question whether some organisations always interpret the law appropriately.
