Haaland

I'm not sure that's correct about small centre backs, City's aren't and Liverpool have two bigger than Haaland. I haven't checked the others but I'm sure there's a few big centre backs about, the difference now to the past is that they have to be able to play football, not just head, tackle and clear.

Sorry mine was more of a general point that Haaland's dominance of centre backs isn't really to do with his height (or theirs) and that a lot of the smaller players at top clubs (not just CBs) who might not look huge but are often ridiculously strong with low centres of gravity.

Sorry, I misunderstood

Liverpool's centre backs are smaller than Haaland, thought they are tall. He's 194cm. Van Dijk is 193cm and Konate is 192cm. City last night started with a back 3 of Dias (187cm), Ake, (180cm) and Walker (178cm), plus Stones in midfield (188cm). Utd play with Martinez (178cm) and Varane (191cm).

I suppose my point isn't that they are smaller, although some noticeably are, but that they are less likely to be the bullying defenders of old.

Like you I googled the heights, obviously a different source but it puts van Dijk at 1.95, Konate at 1.94. Well one of them is guessing, lying or using the wrong site for their info 😂

Anyway, Haaland isn't just doing what he does due to his size. He's pacy, good a good touch and he's a good passer as well as being cool in front of goal.

I think he’d destroy the type of defenders of old you describe too, particularly in this Man City team which is built around him with the aim of putting the ball into the pockets of space near the goal and letting him do the rest.

Pulis probably thinks Aden Flint can do a job on him mind.

He's in the perfect team being at Man City. The quality of supply they create is ridiculous. Unless he has an affinity with or a burning desire to play for real madrid he'd be far better staying at City IMO.

So he needs 13 goals in 8-9 games to set a new English top flight record.

He scored 14 in his first 9 league games in England, so it's not impossible.

Obviously 2 of those games will be against Real Madrid, which is probably going to be very tough.
I'm totally confused now by which records he's broken and what he is chasing.
Does the English top flight record include European games? Who currently holds the record?
What record did he break yesterday?

Dixie Dean scored 63 goals in all competitions (60 in the league, 3 in the FA Cup).

Haaaland is on 51 with 8-9 gams left to play.

Yesterday he broke the Premier League record, but not the top flight league goal record.

I think he’ll go to Madrid for a bit in a few years but might well end up back at City after. It suits him. He’s a normal nice lad, obviously the connection with his dad and seems to vibe with the culture of English players and English football.

City will be totally different to the indifferent celebrity goldfish bowl that is Real Madrid. I don’t think you go there to make friends.

Magnificent player. It’s great to have him here, he’s probably the best player in the world atm.

Ta. I think it's the rebranding cut-off that always gets me. Same as the Mitrovic / Camsell carry on.

Dixie Dean was playing against farmers with a medicine ball when every game finished 6-3 though. I know what you mean, but I don’t mind the rewriting of records to suit the era when players became really professional because the standard of athleticism and talent now, a Haaland supplied by a de Bruyne in the 1930s would score hundreds.

You wouldn't be surprised to see him break the Jimmy Greaves post-war record with 5 games to go.
