Hackney’s ‘Goal’

Give over, it was miles out. I never even bothered standing up as it was clear as day it was out

It always surprises me what constitutes out/in though, even if a tiny fraction of the ball which is not in contact with the ground is hanging partially over the line, it's in. Technically even when it looks completely out by the letter of the law it's often still in, like that Japan one.

Sure but I clearly saw daylight between the bottom of the ball and the white line. That photo is from the opposite angle to mine so is bound to look closer to the line but it really wasnt

What strikes me about this, is how the assistant referee can say that is out from that angle.
Agree. I think he went with the balance of probabilities. He maybe saw some green beyond but as the ball is round that does not mean all the ball is over. However enough fans with a decent eyeline are suggesting it was out so no real complaints. Well, other than they maybe need to get to Specsavers that is 😁

Eh? What matters is where the circumference of the ball is in relation to the line. The position of the bottom of the ball, i.e. the bit touching the ground, is of no consequence.

True but it is a good indication of how far the ball was over, combined with the angle of view and 50 years of watching Boro :)

We are not the sort of club that gets these marginal decisions in our favour, too many refs have been abused by our crowd over the years.

Well the highlights are online now. It looks miles out.

It really does not.

That's both angles available in the highlights of the final frame.

The full curvature of the ball isn't miles out, judging from the first photo it's actually almost certainly still on the line.

Linesmen just get things wrong sometimes, it happens, and it's close enough that I don't blame him on the this one.
The same thing happened in the Sunderland v Ipswich game today, the linesman wrongly giving a corner even though the Ipswich player had kept the ball on the line.

From where I sit half way up the south stand between where Crooks was and the goal post it looked out. The linesman would have had a better view than me and nobody on the pitch or around where I sit was appealing it.

If the ball isn't on the ground, you can easily see a gap and it still isn't out

Can't tell from either of those photos. You can't tell from the south stand, you have the wrong angle. The only view to judge would be from the west or east stand in line with the bye line or close to it.
