Hackney

Why would it be better for him?
It would be better for us as supporters but don't confuse that with being better for Hackney.
Because then he goes to a club that have spent less on his transfer fee & so can give him a higher signing on fee etc.

If an offer comes in and meets our true valuation (not the fmttm valuation) then it would be daft to stand in his way.

I think we'll do well to get that same fee but same ball park. £17-20m.
£20m top end.

Obviously with add ons like these sort of sales always include.

Bemoans fmttm valuations & then comes up with own fmttm valuation. ;)

Erm about 4 months ago with Morgan Rogers
Eh? You said "If we stop letting them move on when opportunities arise then we'll stop getting those players."

Morgan Rogers isn't an example, he left. I'm asking where are the examples of a club holding on to their players and subsequently being unable to sign players as a result?

It’s often right too, we said it was a mistake for Giles to go to Luton, archer to go to Sheff United, Ramsey to go to Burnley and Akpom to go to Ajax…and all have had a torrid time, ditto Spence too, although most of were happy for that to be a disaster for him
But as stated above and I think you agree, these players are being offered top salaries to test themselves at the highest level, if it doesn't work out they remain on the salary but get loaned out to a championship team playing every week but getting higher wages.

I don't begrudge any player getting an opportunity to test themselves at a higher level, I wish them all the best as long as they go about there business in the right way, which all of the above did, can't knock chuba joining Ajax but it hasn't worked out, same for Giles, Archer and Ramsey although Ramsey has more concerning problems for me his Injury record is really poor for a young player TBH.

I bet they all cry themselves to sleep for the next 5 years on their £30-50k / week.contracys wishing they'd came to boro on £15k.

Giles not good enough. He's done well to get the contract he has.

Ramsey has had another injury ridden season

God knows what's going on with Akpom became he seems to be performing so showing he's good enough.

But at the end of the day they are all on at least double the money they would be at Boro
I anticipated this answer. The short term financial one, but the honest answer is that their careers went backwards, job satisfaction is important to everyone, even footballers

But Hackney will back himself to make it. The same as Rogers, Tav, Giles, Akpom and Ramsey did.

Some will make it. Some won't. But he certainly won't if he doesn’t try. He'll be 22 when the season kicks off next season. He's not a baby.

Given he's cemented his place in the U21s, I'm sure he's thinking about full England caps. Especially with the CM position being a position where the door is open. He's got no chance playing for us in the Championship.

I’d hope the club and manager would dish their heals kn this one if any offers come in .
Id doubt he’d kick up much of a fuss to stay for one season jn the championship thatl be one less player we’d need when back in the prem in a yrs time

I think the club would be wiser to sell McGree and possibly one or two of the fringe players rather than Hackney - that would still bring in good money, albeit not as much as selling Hayden would, but we should be building the side around players like Hackney, Dieng, and Lath, not selling them.

I'm sure if any of the lads under contract leave Boro, the club will demand the highest figure and not give them away.
Just a comment: we sold Morgan Rogers for a reportedly big profit, compared to what we paid, and "Big Tree" left around the same time, but we've got better as a team and more consistent since.
Maybe, selling a few players for lucrative deals and buying wisely is the model to take us forward after all?
Really optimistic for next season

It seems that since Aaron Danks took over as first team coach we have seen some great young lads come in from the midlands. The likes of Archer, Azaz, Rogers and now Gilbert, who is showing how good he can be. If Hackney does go and we bring in Archer (who would torture Championship defenders again), Iroegbunam (a proper Boateng defensive midfielder which we don’t have) and a Kesler-Hayden a right back, then it could be a good deal. Can’t see it though. Archer will not want to drop into the Championship and Iroegbunam is in the Villa first team (replaced Douglas Luiz on Saturday).

By that rationale you believe that Rav doesn’t back himself?
Why? I'm sure Rav does back himself. Not heard about any firm interest in Rav.

Also worth noting Rav is well behind the others in his career. With another solid season in the PL, I think he'd also look to move if PL interest was there. He's where Hackney was last season albeit 2 years younger.

Archer is history. Good whilst it lasted, but we could neither afford the fee nor his wages. It would also cause a rumble in the dressing room: we have to have a "wage ceiling", otherwise we are heading for the Saville, Fletcher, Assombalonga, Gestede, scenario - paying out huge sums for average players who are prepared to sit it out on fat salaries. We've done better without them. This coming season, we already have excellent prospects for players already here and aren't dependent on loanees in the same way as last year. I doubt we would miss Greenwood or O`Brien, for instance. Perhaps a ? Question mark over O`Brien? We have a stronger core this year than last, and we have players we can offload, freeing up salary expenditure, without affecting the squad. I'm thinking particularly of Coulson, Djiksteel, Fry, Hoppe, Silvera and McNair.

Much depends, of course, on who we bring in, but there’s four out of the last five who wouldn't be missed. We might get a reasonable Championship offer for Dael Fry, but we've got on without him for the majority of this season, which maybe proves a point. With Smith and Leniham coming back and Clarke proving his capabilities, there is obviously a need for a right back and cover for other positions, but we have room to manoeuvre this pre-season.

Because he turned down the big clubs to come here for game time

So you are talking about an 18 year old Rav? Totally different point in his career. I'm sure he'll know he wasn't going to a PL team at 18 and playing games so yes I would say Rav was realistic at that point in his career.
20 year old Rav with 50+ Championship appearances will be a different story.

Pretty sure Scott spoke about Hackney when he was the radio not too long ago and said something along the lines of that he's happy to stay but of course all players have a price.

And things might have changed since then of course.

At the end of the day rumours are very easy to start and there's too many sad little men happy to make them up to try and appear "ITK". A lot of players will be wanted by bigger clubs. Easy to say I've heard xxxx is definitely going, because there's a fair chance there'll be interest anyway.

It's funny how all these ITK people missed quite a few of our summer signings, had no clue that Jones was out of the team last year due to personal problems and were confidently claiming inside knowledge that Clarke would never play football again.

Unless they come from a reliable source, such as a proper journalist, chances are most rumours are just made up bollox being spread around social media.
