Mark Morris. Difference being is I really struggle to listen to The Bluetones now. It's hard to separate the music from the man
That's the one with the lead singer who started with Steps?Any Lostprophets fans on the board?
Ha yep. In fact the debate with Harry went a similar way, perhaps a bit less escalation. Whether folk disagree with me or not I am also fairly consistent on Morrissey despite the almost two year gap. https://fmttmboro.com/index.php?threads/separating-the-art-from-the-artist.13619/Did I ?? I'm nothing if not consistent.
Oh, what's he done?Mark Morris. Difference being is I really struggle to listen to The Bluetones now. It's hard to separate the music from the man
No, you're thinking of H, total scumbag. That's the one with the lead singer who started with Steps?
Oh, only just noticed you've already found it.So I did
Separating the art from the artist
The death of Phil Spector at the weekend got me thinking a bit more about how easy it is to separate a body of work from the person who created it. I struggle with it a little, but which artists do you dislike / detest their personalities, but actually appreciate the work they produced ...fmttmboro.com
With MJ tho, when the song makes you think about something else, I think you can stop liking it.Often wondered about that. You can't just pretend that you don't like a song anymore just because the bloke who wrote it turned out to be a wrong 'un. Polanski is a dreadful human being, but I can't pretend that I don't love Rosemary's Baby or The Tenant.
That's fair enough. I was never a MJ fan and thankfully I was never a Lostprophets or Gary Glitter fan either. Polanski was always the one that troubled me a bit, but I'd be lying to myself if I said that I didn't still love his films. I've met loads of artists who turned out to be @rseholes. Doesn't stop me from liking their work. With MJ tho, when the song makes you think about something else, I think you can stop liking it.
Like Man in the Mirror, used to love it, loved the delivery as though he really believed it all (though of course he didn't write it and I wish Siedah Garrett had given it to someone else) but now when I hear it I just think 'pipe down you fcking paedo, who are you to say anything'.
Also I think the reason I will still tolerate, and even defend Morrissey to a point. A daft/ignorant middle aged bloke, maybe even a racist, but not a paedo or a rapist.
I think with films its different, I know music is created by a number of people but it still feels like it belongs to the main artist. That's fair enough. You have to feel a bit sorry for the rest of the band. Presumably, they didn't know what he was up to and now all of their work is tarnished because of him.I think with films its different, I know music is created by a number of people but it still feels like it belongs to the main artist.
With films, yeah there's a director/producer/writer but there's a whole load of other people (actors and editors etc) who make it their own too. I don't think films belong to one entity. So I can totally understand why you don't suddenly hate all the Polanski films.
The Lostprophets stuff is another level. I'm SO glad I was never into them. I know he was just a member of a band but even hearing his voice would surely make one's skin crawl. Utterly vile human being. A billion times worse than Morrissey and probably all others.
Just looked this up. I appreciate this claim has been made but nothing in stone is there? Thankfully I was never a big enough fan to be too troubled by this one.Mark Morris. Difference being is I really struggle to listen to The Bluetones now. It's hard to separate the music from the man
Yes, I mean obviously the actual victims are the real tragedy, and you can only hope the damage he's done is somehow manageable for them. But I've always had a degree of empathy for his band and even just his big fans. You have to feel a bit sorry for the rest of the band. Except Jamie Oliver, the thick tongued Twit. You have to feel a bit sorry for the rest of the band. Presumably, they didn't know what he was up to and now all of their work is tarnished because of him.
not sure its the same one.Except Jamie Oliver, the thick tongued Twit.

I would like to address the allegations made by my ex-wife Anna in her recent blog “If I’m Lying, Come Sue Me.” (Nov 16 2021) Anna and I have a young daughter and for her sake, and that of my son, I have taken time in considering how to respond. I needed to prioritise my […]markmorrissmusic.co.uk
I did and as much as there are two sides to every story, for me, it didn't excuse some of the abhorrent behaviour that was described and subsequently confirmed by Morris himself. There's no doubt that their relationship was toxic at times, and I appreciate his past didn't provide him with the appropriate tools to deal with that, but I don't believe that the apparent provocation is sufficient to condone his response.Have you seen this?
