Have you ever shed tears for the Boro

Cried after the Carling cup final and that obviously stemmed from the victory but also the memory of my dad crying when Heskey scored that late, late equaliser at Wembley to rob us back then. My old man died the day of the second leg of the semi final against Arsenal and said all through the cup run that he felt our time had come. He followed the Boro all his life and didn't say things like that lightly. I actually had his photo with me in Cardiff and in my own way he saw that trophy being lifted.
UTB.

When the second went in at Wembley for Norwich. It took me 10s or so before I turned to the boy. He was only 8 and just had tears streaming down his face. Not ballin just tears. “ We’re not gonna win dad”
Made me quite proud that. Always think of that and give him a squeeze when we have a good moment.

You have to have the bad times to enjoy the good ones

Not when things go wrong, I'm fairly stoical in those circumstances, but I may have got something in my eye at Cardiff and the Brighton game.

Same for me, my son was 9 and it was the first time I had seen him cry at the match. I didn't realise it had started to get hold of him, he'd had a season ticket for a couple of years but this was the first time that I had seen that it really mattered. I felt distraught. What had I done to him. It was the most upset I had been at a match seeing him cry got me going.

Morning after the Steaua comeback, was on my way to work and the radio replayed Ali's famous commentary. Had to stop and have a wee manly dab of the old peepers!

Final whistle at the ZDS Final against Chelsea at Wembley when the whole of the Boro end raised their scarves and a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone was belted out as our players walked round the pitch, a very proud day to be a Boro fan

No, but came close as a 15 year old stood in the Holgate in May 1988 after we’d lost to Leicester, thought we’d blew our chance.

Another one for the cup final win in Cardiff, but not at the final whistle, I was crying when we went 2-0 up! I'm not sure what was going on in my head!

The only other time was when we got promoted at Wolves. Me and my Dad, along with many others it seemed, had gone in the Wolves end.

Luckily my Dad had a word with a copper and we got moved to the Boro end. It felt hostile that day!

I also got a bit emotional watching a Juninho video shortly after he went to Madrid. So gutted he'd gone.

Twice. First time as a 16 yr old when we lost the fa cup quarter final against Brum in 74. I was convinced we were going to win the cup that year.
Second time 2004 at the millennium stadium Carling cup final. 46 yrs old and I couldn't stop myself. I was with my family and a mate. I turned around to say what a wuss I was and he was blubbing away too.😭

Only once in defeat, when we got relegated at Leeds, TLF set me off.

twice in victory, when Big Jack got us promoted and In Cardiff

Bubbled at the end of the FA Cup Final in 97. I'd bottled up all of the stress and emotions of that season and it all came flooding out at the final whistle 😞
Me too. I was 14 though. Think that was the only time. Felt like crying on the walk back to main square in Eindhoven after the match. Don’t think I did though. I didn’t at Cardiff.

Good grief yes - more than once 😁 can’t quite remember the first time - I’m a bit old 🤪 possibly Birmingham FA Cup quarter final - bloódy Bob Hatton 😢

For about five minutes after full time vs Sevilla. Mainly out of frustration. I'd been spoiled over the last few weeks, thinking we could go a few goals down and just come back at the end... and we didn't, did we?

Orient, fa cup quarter final. Was listening to it on the radio in bed, only 10 at the time. I really thought we would beat them, and go on to the semi final, be on Match of the Day etc.

I'm really surprised at the amount of people saying they shed tears in Cardiff. I was happy when we won, but it was almost stunned disbelief.

I can remember talking to some Bolton fans in a pub afterwards and they were like "cheer up, you won", but it was almost disbelief that it had finally happened, so you were almost just temporarily stunned into silence.

I know I shed a tear at Elland Road in 1997, can't honestly remember other occasions, although I can remember blubbing at Wembley can't remember which game though, I'd guess at 97 probably from sheer frustration at how the whole season had ended.

The moment Afonso Alves came off the bench to make his first Boro appearance. I was expecting a bit of Brazilian flair but within 10 mins I turned and said to my mate 'It's like watching Brian Deane', as I wiped the tears of disappointment from my face 🤣😝.

It’s our fans that have made me emotional over the years rather than the team.

I can cope with the team winning or losing big matches but when we have a major mobilisation of our support base for the big games down to Wembley or Cardiff or Eindhoven and I look around at our end of the stadium and see the massed ranks of our fans just before kick off it does get to me.

One other stand out emotional moment was when I got off the travel club coach outside the Phillip Stadion and they had a massive banner on the front of the stadium, ‘Eufa Cup Final 2007 Seville v Middlesbrough‘. The magnitude of what our relatively modest club had achieved suddenly hit me. Fortunately I’d travelled on my own so no problem spending a few minutes composing myself with nobody watching....
