Houchen 51 per cent in latest opinion poll

Lots of margin for error in this. Taking out those who said they are certain not to vote, puts the sample around 600.

This is what is striking, look at the Lib Dem vote...

People are still apathetic to vote, especially younger people. Plus the voter ID requirements are skewed towards older people too.

Houchen will win. That's partly down to the Labour candidate being a wet fart and partly down to the public being a load of f*ckwits. They voted for Johnson, they voted for Brexit, they didn't vote for Corbyn, they think Starmer is a great bunch of lads and they'll vote for Ben. This country is screwed.

He seems to be ingleby Barwick first choice too…. I mean, it’s full of people who think a few jobs created is worth the apparent corruption to get them…
Well we can judge all we want on here but the facts are that people are preferring him over the competition.

Labours problem is not being able to attract the right candidate.

Be interesting to see how it pans out, & if he does win how he manages to work with a Labour Party that most likely despises him and will probably starve him of the investment he has found in his previous terms.

You’re starting finally to realise how thick and lazy the English voters really are ?
Note how I didn’t mention Welsh Scottish and the Irish because they are all brighter than the English when it comes to figuring out politicians in terms of what’s morally acceptable and just the best most compassionate way forward for our society

Suppose really, it will be better if Houchen gets re-elected and then Labour gets the keys to No 10.

Then the NAO will start looking at Teessworks and he will hopefully get his comeuppance as a public figure rather than one who has scuttled away defeated.

Being re-elected he may well win the battle but the war will have just started.......where's he going to be without his bestie Gove protecting him......

That’s a very good point actually. Blessing in disguise that he wins

There are no facts until Friday morning.

This is one poll, here's another

Problem with both polls is we don't know the direction of travel, or more importantly the speed. It's basically a toss up between the two at this stage. Regardless of your social media preferences.

The same Scottish that literally had a husband and wife as FM and CEO of the same party you mean.

Why? There is an awful lot of feeling

You are perhaps forgetting what incredible damage and destruction Houchen could wreak in Middlesbrough as chair of the new Mayoral Development Authority that cherry picked buildings and sites all over town from the derelict Crown to Central Library.
You might not know much about this because transparency does not appear to be a trait of the present Tees Valley Mayor.
The council has been fighting to stave off bancruptcy. You would have to fear that Houchen could put a wrecking ball through those efforts and put many jobs and services at risk.
