How’s payero doing

On the ball playing it forward he's better than anything we have.

He cannot play that howson role though as doest have the positional sense for a dm. Wilder spotted that within ten and pushed him forward.

He looked lethargic and uninterested though. He will need to improve his intensity off the ball to have a future I think based on today.

Obvious quality when he has time to pick a pass tho
 
Yep, got moved around when he wasnt covering in Howsons position ... Jury still out for me , need to see more but looks very limited and not so mobile ...
 
Looked weak sometimes when receiving the ball with a player at his back, but then showed he wasn't shy of a strong challenge and getting stuck in either

Couple of good balls forward which you can see we are crying out for as a team

I think he did OK in a challenging game to bring him into - still needs time (will have gone backwards no doubt after not playing for so long), but for wilder to bring him on shows a bit of trust and belief in him, and he played his part in 40 minutes of a good solid win

Has to improve when we don't have the ball for wilders pressing game. Some good quality on the ball when we do have it. Don't think he showed he should start games, but did show that if we are chasing a game he had had quality to make something happen

It was a strange one, although obviously don't want to criticise because we won the game.

Thought Howson was having an excellent game so can only assume he'd gone off with a knock.

It's another example of why I'd like to see a DM come in to be honest, although there's the option of bringing Bamba on and playing McNair that at a push.

Yes we definitely need another DM. Swapping the back 3 around to put McNair in the middle definitely wouldn't be the best option.

Regarding Payero he really struggled to make any impact especially in terms of work off the ball
 
Howson was doing his job defensively but I didn't think he was getting on the ball enough and he wasn't playing us through the midfield. Payero solved that problem briefly but he was too much of a liability defensively to keep him there so he got swapped for Crooks.

DM has been our problem position all season and I think it's rearing it's head again. You put Crooks there and you lose him going forward and his connection with Jones, you put Payero there we look dodgy defensively, you put McNair there and we lose our best centre back. It needs solving.

I have no idea what McGree is like but if he can do what Crooks did on the right side then we should be able to put Crooks at DM without losing too much going forward but with him being left footed I assumed he was going to compete with Tav.

Really don't like the idea of Crooks as DM. Midfielders who chip in with goals are worth their weight in gold. We need to keep Crooks in an advanced role. I'm hoping he'll finish the season with double figures in goals scored.
 
It's about passing. Howson's was terrible. Just kept hitting up in the air. Payero played pass after pass setting up attacks. He does need to learn positioning but technically he is streets ahead of anyone else we have.

Whether it works for him here I don't know. The formation might do for him. If we give him time I l would think we will see a cracking player.
