I am a positive Pup ... But does defeat tomorrow...

Preston are a funny team and have looked like both promotion and relegation contenders this season alike.

People say we're inconsistent, of course we are, all clubs in our league position are inconsistent, if we were consistent we'd be at the top of the table. Never understood that one.

The difference though is that others sides don’t beat Leicester and Southampton then lose to Rotherham.

I think we need to stop debating whether the season is over really. It will be over when it's mathematically impossible for us to reach the play-offs.

Don't get me wrong, my gut feeling is that we're not going to make the play-offs, but until it's confirmed let's just hope we can put a run of wins together and see what happens.

Coventry lost to Rotherham.

They also beat Leicester.

Let's not pretend it's just us who are inconsistent.

Every team, except the top 3 are inconsistent in this league. It's pretty much the same in every single division too.

... realistically end the play off challenge?

Depending on results that could put us 9 points outside of the top 6.

Awful thought but could the season be effectively over if Jon Parkin turns it on tomorrow? 😮

Alternatively - big confidence win tomorrow, Norwich and Watford take a point off each other, a couple of surprise defeats for Hull and the Mackems - bish bash bosh, we are in the mix, bring a spoon gents.

No. That was ended a long time ago. Go back to the summer and the playoff push ended when we sold our best player and replaced our promotion calibre loan players with cheap projects.

We had very little chance of promotion this season. People accepting the fact now that it is mathematically unlikely is not the same as it being over. It never started.

Coventry lost to Rotherham.

They also beat Leicester.
They didn’t beat Southampton though that’s the point our inconsistency is not the norm as we beat the best then fail to turn up v the poorer sides and we always have.
Would anyone really be shocked if we lost tomorrow then beat Leicester because I wouldn’t.

Fail to beat Rotherham twice then almost hold villa and beat Chelsea

it makes no sense.

it makes no sense.
Yes it does.

It's football.

Coventry also drew with Saints. So they've gained 4 points off Leicester and Saints....yet lost to Rotherham. Very similar to us.

Liverpool sit top of the PL, and yet they failed to beat Luton. It's football.

Other than a centre forward, we have more than enough ability to be amongst the mix. Our issue has been the injuries, we seemed just to be getting over them and then will lose another.

There are still 16 games to go but if I am being honest, I can't see us finishing in the top 6.

Edit: Forgot the ST part - What incentive is there for a new ST to pay £70 more than an existing season ticket holder?

You blew it with your edit - clear off.

Your missing the point this is not a one off we regularly lose to the worst and beat the best and that is because we raise our game for the bigger games which is wrong.

I agree. Consistency isn't about winning the games you should and losing the games you should otherwise you'd be able to predict the results every week based on league position alone which you never can.

Football is like two people rolling a dice. Sometimes there's a team that is clearly better than the other (like us v Chelsea) and they will roll a dice with numbers 5, 6, 7, 8 ,9 & 10 against us with a standard 1-6. There are times when the best team can play poorly and roll a 6 but even on the other team's best day it is only good enough to manage a draw. There are circumstances where the weaker team can win. It's unlikely but it happens. When we beat Chelsea they rolled a 5 the day we rolled a 6. In the reverse fixture we rolled a 2.

In the championship the majority of teams are playing with the same dice so the chances of winning and losing are roughly similar. If you want to play with a stronger dice then you need to improve your squad. Not beating Rotherham is unlikely but possible, beating Leicester is unlikely but possible.

Because that was October, and in the following 3 months we have been inconsistent at best. We don't have a CF, Carrick doesn't know what his best team is - injuries have definitely taken their toll.

It's not a criticism, just an observation.

I personally just can't see it happening. Just a step too far for us this season.

And Forss, despite him playing all his career as a CF is not going up top. He's the new Stuani.
Personally I think we’ll finish 6th. Or 9th. That’s the beauty of this league. We’re in with a decent shout until the end of April

Of course we are.

My glass is neither half full or empty......just trying to be realistic. Don't get in the playoffs? I'm okay with that. Disappointing, but.....🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Trying to look at the big picture and stay positive. Anyhow, I like the Championship 😁 👍

This image below shows the rest of the season simulated by someone. Shows a 5.3% chance of making the playoffs and as likely to end up in the bottom half as the top. Thankfully just a 0.3% chance of relegation. This is modelled based on remaining fixtures and shows we have tough fixtures remaining.1000033148.png

I mean.. Sunderland missing out is some comfort at least.

I think....Carrick has to start picking the 11 most of the fans would pick. And we need a couple more back from injury like Lath, Coburn. Thomas needs to start for a game after Engel has had another stutter.
Anferee might need a full game if Ayling doesn't cut the mustard in the next game or two.

We potentially have a team/squad that can easily capture 5th or 6th spot but equally, with the injuries persisting and odd team selections we could quite easily stay mid table. Odds are for mid table or slightly higher but Carrick & his team of staff has surprised before with his particular way of motivating the players to achieve what they are capable of - excellent performances and goals. Just that we dont have a goalscorer fit as such....

It's real pessimism, but I think we've got next to no chance of going up, even if we do force our way into the play offs. I think whoever finishes 3rd out of Leeds and Southampton are head and shoulders above the rest and will be promoted quite comfortably, sadly. Due to this I'm not getting too high after a win, or too low after a defeat. I just have no expectations of us after the season we've had.

Last season frustrates me more and more every day, really. I don't think we'll have a better chance or have as good a team in this division for a good while.
