I think Carrick is on the brink

I don't want the club to keep sacking managers I want the club to build something long term and be finishing in or around the promotion spots.
But where do we go from here?
We can't bring in players right now, we obviously can't use the injured players and we can't win(or at least fairly consistently win).
So what needs to change?

-Carrick could change the tactics and if we can't win then at least don't lose and go back to basics try to be more solid.

-We could bring in an experienced number 2 to help out(but that probably isn't a good option as it would be seen as a vote of no confidence in the manager).

- The club could sack Carrick and hope that the new fella can get a tune out the squad, but then would we as fans trust the club not to just give the job to Woodgate or Leadbitter until the end of the season.

- We stick with what we have been doing and hope that things somehow improve with injured players returning or some of the current players hit a good streak of form. The issue is since September we have been saying once the players settle things will get better(and briefly they where). After the January transfer window we will be stronger. Once Mcgree is back it will be better, once Dieng is back it will get better etc etc but things don't seem to be improving and now we are talking about being in a relegation battle.

I really don't know what the answer is and I'm just throwing these points out there. Something needs to change but I'm not clever enough nor do I have enough experience in coaching or running a football club to make these decisions or find the answers.
Tactics, be stubborn, boring whatever you want to call it but keep, clean sheets, gain points and confidence and ultimately stop the rot.

We have sat in against plenty of teams this season, also with a but of luck on our side but played our way to wins whilst been aggressive defensively, so we can do it bit the formation and team structure needs to suit the players that are available.

What we also need to do is learn to adapt in a game when plan A isn't working, players need to take more responsibility, have a dig, gamble on a back pass all simple things that help in making your. Only luck!

We are as bad now as we have been at any point in recent times just before a manager was sacked.

Abject performance after abject performance. No learning. Persisting with things that simply aren’t working.

I’m afraid his time is probably up.
We just have to soldier on and win the points to stay up, now's not the time for Gibson or the supporters to bottle it. Come what may we have to get behind them against Norwich.
Its tough being a Boro fan at the moment, but its about supporting them at the game on Wednesday.

Recruitment hasn't been great but the same can be said for some of Carrick's decision making.

- Sticking with the same formation when it isn't working, rather than switching to wing-backs (which has actually worked for us)

- Persisting with the same style of play, when we don't have the players who are capable of playing that way.

- Playing loan players who aren't good enough and who won't be bothered whether we stay up or go down

- Leaving it too late to make changes during the game, and when he does it's usually a like for like change.
This seems to be a trait of a lot of our current managers, there stubbornness to change tactics and adapt eventually becomes there undoing, I hope this isn't the case for Carrick but nothing I have seen this full season suggests otherwise, I hope I'm wrong!

We played differently today than last week and didn’t mess around with the ball at the back.
Had Carrick played the Leicester formation we would have won that game easily because Stoke were brittle and we helped them with their confidence with the way we played
Yep agree, the defenders went long and very rarely tried to play out from the back, (I was glad we mixed it up, as teams now know how woeful we are when playing out) and first half, I thought ok, Stoke are fighting for their lives, we created a few good chances, it’s all a bit scrappy.

Second half, the wheels completely came off, players hiding, and because they had the OK to go long when under a bit of pressure, the Boro players then decided to just hit hopeful balls forward to no one.
The shape and structure went, full backs awful, midfield gutless, Lathe might as well not been on the pitch, they just couldn’t engineer a pass to get him on the ball.

What is very worrying above all else is the lack of fight from the players,

There were signs of his stubbornness when he refused to try Forss up front, when we didn't have another striker fit.

Then his ridiculous decision to persist with Glover when Dieng was available. No way would he have conceded those goals that Glover let in against Sunderland and Preston.

But that's what Carrick wants, he's not gonna change his approach drastically against the likes of Rotherham or Preston or Stoke the way he would against Chelsea, Aston Villa, or Leicester. We don't have the players to play attacking football beyond the control possession approach to it. We don't have the energy to aggressively press teams and pressure them, nor do we have the pace to quickly get at teams with any degree of directness, nor the pace or drive to launch counter attacks and quickly break up the pitch. So what type of attacking football are you proposing we try to play?
This full statement optimises why we are struggling, tactically and technically we are very poor, just at times play some nice football, is how I see us at this present moment.

I also have no doubt we will be on a spectacle this week and blow Norwich out of the water because it is the story of our season.

I wouldn’t blame him if he walked away but I don’t think he will. I think he will fight. I think our strongest XI is good enough for the up half looking up rather than where we are now. He’s without Smith, Fry, Howson, Lenihan, Jones and Hackney. They’d all be starting imo.

The signings of Ayling and Thomas have been absolutely dreadful. Not signing a striker on top of selling Rogers and Crooks was borderline negligent. Those things may encourage him to resign but I just don’t think he will. We need to muddle though until the summer and sign some quality. There’s around £40m there to spend isn’t there. We need to see that on the pitch next season.

This season has turned into a car-crash. Carrick has his faults but most of it has been out of his control imo.

Why is he the right man,,? Because he had 3 good months last season with 60 million pounds worth of attacker. Realistically he's not going to have that again, so.if he can't work.with players within our budget do we need to look elsewhere
3 good months? And yet miraculously has an almost 50 percent win rate over nearly 18 months? Don't talk daft.

I accept there are issues, but that is as laughable as its incorrect.

75% of his wins come in that 3 month let's face it it isn't good enough and needs to go he should have went at the beginning of the season when we couldn't pick a point to save our lives the signs have been there from the start

Carrick is going nowhere, I'm hoping he signs another deal. Problem for me is recruitment & coaching staff. On another note are we soon to be involved in a relagation battle? If so can we really charge fans premier league ticket prices for league 1 football?

Well that suggests the club hasn’t replaced the departed players sufficiently. I don’t think it’s on Carrick tbh.
He picks the team and plays the same formation people need to get out of his ass he ballesed the play offs now has us in a relegation battle between him and Gibson half you lot would let him do the missus and make them a sarnie after FFS

His after match interview was dire, failed to accept that we weren’t good enough, trotted out some nonsense about us showing the desire to win and having the right attitude, he sounds like a broken record now, which is worrying, fans aren’t daft, they can see what is happening in front of them, don’t treat them like idiots.

I think he has something, he has made some poor decisions, agree, but some of the football at times has been scintillating, (more so last season) we just need to get Carrick better players and I think he will get Boro to the premiership.
He deserves another go next season…I just hope and pray the club give him the tools he needs.
