I think Carrick is on the brink

I didn't say play out from the back and tap it around
But that's what Carrick wants, he's not gonna change his approach drastically against the likes of Rotherham or Preston or Stoke the way he would against Chelsea, Aston Villa, or Leicester. We don't have the players to play attacking football beyond the control possession approach to it. We don't have the energy to aggressively press teams and pressure them, nor do we have the pace to quickly get at teams with any degree of directness, nor the pace or drive to launch counter attacks and quickly break up the pitch. So what type of attacking football are you proposing we try to play?

A system set up to have players behind the ball and defend most of the game and try and steal a goal? Fine against Chelsea, Villa, and Leicester, not really the way we should be playing against the likes of Preston or Stoke.
All well and good saying that but clearly it is not working with the players we have got at our disposal. At least if we set up with 5 a the back we would be more likely to stay up. We need to grind out a couple of goalless draws starting at QPR next week.

Our transfer windows combined with injuries has left us with a number of players that are not good enough to start in the first 11. I get “the model” but apart from a couple of notable exceptions the bargain basement approach has not worked for us. It was clear we were lacking in January but rather than really strengthen we sold one of the few signings that showed real potential and didn’t secure any striker cover when we have two that are injury prone. I agree that Carrick needs to be more adaptable to change the system and he has to take responsibility for the recent dive in form but when you are stuck with players like Barlasser, Thomas, Ayling, Greenwood, Silvera and spend weeks without a recognised striker there is only one outcome. I don’t want us to lose Carrick but I think it will happen one way or another because as others have said, it looks like this is the standard of player we will be buying for the foreseeable future. Lose Hackney and maybe Van Den Berg and we will be even weaker. Personally I don’t think changing the manager will help much but results will no doubt dictate that if it continues

I think in his defence, the injuries have hampered our progress this season and we haven't once been able to field our best eleven. Just look at the players missing again today, Carrick must feel like he's working with his hands tied behind his back.
Who picks Thomas over Engel, who plays Ayling over Dijksteel? Who picks Greenwood over Azaz? Carrick has. In my opinion our own players are better than those 3 loans

Everyone has to learn their trade, that takes time. I will give Carrick the benefit of doubt this season. Two seasons in management and a great one last year, but injuries have not helped this season.
Does he have the right experience in his management team?
Do you give him the benefit of the doubt if we're in League one?

It's just so.weird....
We're heading back to warnock.town...
Hovering above a disastrous return to league 1
I would get behind the club in league 1.and the romantic in me and former division 3 supporter kind of thinks we are needing an overhaul

Steve on the basis that we haven't backed michael.carrick I'm thinking there's a rabbit off

Are you selling up

Is keiran off...

Can we rebuild Ayresome if we do?

He has problems and I don't think his backroom staff can really offer him anything. Best we can hope for now is to avoid relegation and then get a proper coach in to support or possibly even replace him.

Did he have the right experience in his management team when we were playing well without so many injuries?

How about playing a style that stops the opposition scoring so easily against us, you start every game with a point !

I don't want the club to keep sacking managers I want the club to build something long term and be finishing in or around the promotion spots.
But where do we go from here?
We can't bring in players right now, we obviously can't use the injured players and we can't win(or at least fairly consistently win).
So what needs to change?

-Carrick could change the tactics and if we can't win then at least don't lose and go back to basics try to be more solid.

-We could bring in an experienced number 2 to help out(but that probably isn't a good option as it would be seen as a vote of no confidence in the manager).

- The club could sack Carrick and hope that the new fella can get a tune out the squad, but then would we as fans trust the club not to just give the job to Woodgate or Leadbitter until the end of the season.

- We stick with what we have been doing and hope that things somehow improve with injured players returning or some of the current players hit a good streak of form. The issue is since September we have been saying once the players settle things will get better(and briefly they where). After the January transfer window we will be stronger. Once Mcgree is back it will be better, once Dieng is back it will get better etc etc but things don't seem to be improving and now we are talking about being in a relegation battle.

I really don't know what the answer is and I'm just throwing these points out there. Something needs to change but I'm not clever enough nor do I have enough experience in coaching or running a football club to make these decisions or find the answers.

You preferred today?
We played differently today than last week and didn’t mess around with the ball at the back.
Had Carrick played the Leicester formation we would have won that game easily because Stoke were brittle and we helped them with their confidence with the way we played

I still think he is the right man, but he has been let down badly with the recruitment IMO.
There is always an excuse, this recruitment statement whilst relative is a cop out IMO, I am a pro Carrick person but as I have said, he is part of the team that signs off on a player he says he can work with them, his job is to set the team up tactically to get the best out of the group of players he has and there strengths and to exploit the oppoenents weaknesses, currently he isn't and hasn't been for some time getting the best out of the players he has or setting up in the correct manner that plays to the strengths of this group of players.

His tactics and way of playing whilst great when it works leaves us wide open because our players are good at it so teams press wait for our mistake then punish, whilst I agree recruitment hasn't been great this was still the same last year defensively as a team lacking which ultimately as well as tactics cost us promotion last year.

Is Carrick learning?

Carricks never had a 0-0 managing us we concede to the opponent kinda every game

We still did mess around with it at the back twice barlaser lost the ball when playing out from the back and Stoke should of converted the chances but they didn't so Barlaser avoids the spotlight as much.
